Baron-Fuenté

Millésime Brut Champagne Blend 2009

Somm David T
9.1

First time trying the Baron-Fuente Millesime after their Reserve and it enjoying that quite a bit. This one needs a bit of time in bottle to show its better self than their N/V fresh.

The nose shows; macerated fruits of, green & golden apples, lemon, lime zest, well overripe pineapple, white peach and hints of grapefruit with pith. Lots of bread dough and yeastiness. Soft chalkiness & volcanic minerals, oyster shells, yellow florals & lilies with mixed greens.

The palate again delivers that bread dough & yeastiness. Macerated fruits of; green & golden apples, lemon, lime zest, well overripe pineapple, white peach and hints of grapefruit with pith. Lots of bread dough and yeastiness. Soft chalkiness & gritty volcanic minerals, saline, oyster shells, yellow florals & lilies with mixed greens. Good acidity and a well balanced & polished finish. This will deliver a little more with a 3-5 years in bottle.

Grande Réserve Brut Champagne Blend

Somm David T
9.1

The images aren’t flashy like Krug, Billecart or Ruinart etc. but, if you want a really nice, well priced Blanc de Blanc Champagne, this is for you. At, $24.99, I would challenge anyone to find another Champagne let alone a good one at this price point. As well, an equal Cremant or sparking wine in the same price range. Exceptional QPR here!

The nose is bright and fresh. Crisp green apple, lighter color citrus, overripe pineapple, orange peel and spray, touch of golden apple, touch of bruised pear, ginger notes, vanilla cream soda, caramel notes, spice, hints of baguette crust, honey, darker minerals with chalk, sea spray, fruit blossoms and withering yellow lilies.

The wine brings rich, reductive freshness and substantial acidity to your palate. Crisp green apple, lighter color citrus, overripe pineapple, orange peel and spray, under ripe green melon, touch of golden apple, light bruised pear, ginger notes, vanilla cream soda, caramel notes, marzipan, white spice, hints of baguette crust, honey, darker minerals that press the palate deeply with teeth & heat, nice chalkiness, sea spray, fruit blossoms with withering yellow lilies. The finish is quite nice with richness and goes on and on and on.

Baron Fuente is a Champagne negotiant that also owns thirty-eight hectares of their own vineyards. They are located in a village called Charly at the far western edge of Champagne. The side closest to Paris.

Vera de la Fuente (Tomás Frias Gonzalez)

Vijariego Negro 2015

— 8 years ago

La Reina Estate Bottled Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Interesting flavors and complexity which will only become better with time - 2015 vintage. Nice spice with amazing peppery nose. Dark blackberry fruit on palette. Soft but flavorful tannins on the finish. Great with BBQ, any red meat off smoker, or Spanish dish. Could be best in another 3-5 years. — 7 years ago

I really like this. It goes so well with Spanish tapas - especially cheese and meats! Dry but the fruit lingers long afterwards — 8 years ago

Rueda Verdejo 2015

Bright pale greenish yellow color with intense aromas of papaya and passion fruit with herbal notes of fennel and sage; as well as a bit of beeswax. In the mouth is super fresh high acidity, that begins with tropical fruit and ends with a medium long herbal and mineral finish. 13.5% alcohol. Everything I want a Verdejo to be! — 7 years ago

Tempranillo. A great baja wine. Fruity start that leads to a great earthy middle and ends with a tinge of peppery spice. — 7 years ago

Dioro Rioja Red Blend 2015

40% Vidau (the old field blend) plus 45% Tempranillo and 15% Mazuelo, from a slope in the south of the Monte Yerga called Cuesta la Reina, from a big, 120-hectare plot that has been with the Escudero family for generations. It's fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel with a long maceration, matured in new French (70%) and American oak barrels for 18 months. this is a fun wine that crosses old world and new world. It’s got power, but it’s compact and not flabby. Needed some air to get moving — 8 years ago

Reserve Mendoza Malbec 2016
