Domaine Barville Châteauneuf-du-Pape Roussanne 2023

Brotte Domaine Barville Châteauneuf-du-Pape Roussanne 2023, France

Pale gold in color.

Fruity nose with light oak, flowers, citrus, apples, spices, earth and herbs.

Medium bodied with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with lemons, green apples, earth and bitter herbs.

Long finish with limes and almonds.

This is a very tasty Roussanne from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Well balanced, crisp and elegant. Complex, spicy and entertaining.

Feels like it has some aging potential, and would be interesting to revisit it in 5 years.

Good right out of the bottle and good by itself or with food. Better when not too cold.

100% Roussanne grapes were aged for 8 months in (30% new) French oak barrels. A small production of only 3,000 bottles.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

Les Hauts de Barville Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache Blanc 2023

2023 vintage. ‘23’s here already. This CDP blanc checking in at less than half the going rate for many CDP blancs and over-delivering. Slightly oily and vibrant, stone fruit nose mixed with minerals. Such a nice change of pace just in time. Vote for Summer. 6.19.24. — 10 months ago

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache Blend 2018

A lovely wine from a lovely region. The nose of this deep ruby blend is marked by bright but dusty fruits. On the palette you got red cherries, raspberries, and I can practically taste the large white stones that litter the terroir in Chateauneuf du Pape. An excellent wine. $50 — 4 days ago

Les Hauts de Barville Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc White Rhone Blend 2012

I like this. Bold nose, some green character. Really approachable, big body, substantial length and a clean acidic finish. I’m surprised by the other Delectable raters negging on this so much. Maybe it’s the age? This has some years. Bought for a deal at Drinxx in The Hague. — 7 years ago

Édition Limitée Expression Châteauneuf-du-Pape Clairette 2023

Domaine Barville Brotte Expression Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2023, France

Pale lemon in color.

Strong nose and medium in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with limes, lemons, grapefruits, sweet apples, spices, herbs and earth.

Spicy finish with herbs and fresh black pepper.

A good quality wine that is not bitter nor tart. Nicely balanced and spicy. Showing mild complexity and a buttery mouthfeel.

Good by itself and better when properly chilled.

La Fiole Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2010

Brotte Barville La Fiole Vintage Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2010, France

#AgedWineTuesday

Pretty color of light ruby with a light brick rim.

On the nose prunes, raisins and fresh red berries.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with red cherries, currants, light wood, spices, dark chocolates, tobacco leaf, herbs, light earth and peppercorn.

This 15-year-old red blend from Châteauneuf-du-Pape feels very young, especially right out of the bottle, with lots of acidity to carry it much further. Complex and interesting. Elegant and rich.

An interesting wine with port-like aromas on the nose and feels very fresh on the palate.

Still young and needs a few hours to open up properly. Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years.

Delicious by itself as a sipping wine and good with food too.

A blend of mostly Grenache with Mourvedre, Syrah, Cinsault and 4 other local Varietals. Aged in French oak barrels for 10 years. A tiny production of only 900 bottles made.

15% alcohol by volume.

Optimum Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2010

Quite alcoholic and high toned on the nose with bright plum and Black pepper. On the palate silky, with intense red fruit, sweetness and a hint of burn. Still young and quite hot, but could settle into something interesting. — 7 years ago

Very interesting profile in the “Featured” section. I had no idea you were from across the pond. As to this wine, it will soon be nigh impossible to find a CDP that is not too high in alcohol, thanks to our ruining an entire fucking PLANET!

Sadly too true Tom. Worth getting wines you love now as there’s a danger many could change beyond recognition.
