Amazing with spicy Thai! — 3 years ago
Similar to Retsina but with more subtle flavour. Very dry. Earthy resin and dried fruit notes. Great potential but not enough flavour. — 4 years ago
Insanely weird and wonderful. Almost white port like notes. Sweet fruit and heavy viscous mouth feel . — 6 years ago
Best skin-contact Georgian orange I’ve had (available from the local wine shop). Funkier than Dilao. Excellent everyday natural wine.
Had this the day Ari got her haircut. Soundtrack: Incubus, Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins. — 9 years ago
Teliani Valley – Amber Blend 2022
Kakheti – Georgia 🇬🇪
Overview
A traditional Georgian amber wine made from a blend of Rkatsiteli, Mtsvane, Kisi, and Khikhvi — four of the country’s most historic indigenous grapes. Crafted with skin contact, this cuvée reflects the ancient qvevri tradition while appealing to modern palates. (Educational note: Amber wine, also called “orange wine,” results from fermenting white grapes on their skins, giving color, tannin, and complexity.)
Aromas & Flavors
Notes of dried apricot, orange peel, and quince lead, with layers of chamomile, tea leaf, and subtle spice. Hints of honey and walnut appear, creating both freshness and earthiness.
Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied with firm, tea-like tannins from skin contact. Textured and grippy yet lifted by acidity, finishing dry, savory, and persistent.
Food Pairings
Pairs beautifully with Georgian cuisine like khachapuri and walnut-stuffed vegetables. Also versatile with Middle Eastern mezze, roasted poultry, or aged cheeses.
Verdict
A fascinating and authentic expression of Georgia’s amber wine tradition. Complex, grippy, and aromatic, this 2022 blend is both educational and deeply enjoyable. 🍷

@Delectable Wine this is the Saperavi + Kisi + Khikhvi blend — 3 years ago
Very good light orange, has the right note of funky on open for a natural ferment, light tannin, less than many qvevri wines. Khikhvi grape. Not sweet, of course, but not super dry/fruity either. Will repeat. — 5 years ago
By the glass with lunch, no formal notes. First time ever trying Khikhvi and I can imagine this is how wine was made 1000 years ago. Obviously extended skin contact with a copper salmon color. Funky fresh nose and complex on the palate with all sorts of interesting fruit and non-fruit things going on. Acid and tannin providing good structure. Certainly a change of pace and quite enjoyable actually. — 6 years ago
Funky town! If you smelled this blind, you might think you were about to imbibe a tiki drink. Its appearance is murky and dark amber. In the glass, I taste mai tai, baker’s yeast and grapefruit acidity. Definitely worth trying! Can’t wait to pour this for @Paul Mabray — 8 years ago
