Dates back to the Crusades & Scottish navigator, George Smith, owner in 18th century, followed by M. Duffour-Dubergier, Mayor of Bordeaux, then Louis Eschenauer, wine shipper. In 1990, Daniel & Florence Cathiard now own estate. A blend of 55% Cab Sauv, 40% Merlot, 4% Cab Franc, & 1% Petit Verdot. Dark red with dark berry fruit aromas, cedar and sweet spice. On the palate rich & complex ripe black fruit flavors, oak & cacao. Firm rich tannins, full, lingering, perfect balance. L-T aging. — 8 years ago
Close to perfection! Dark fruits of black cherry, plum, prune, blueberry, and licorice. Smooth as can be with a finish that last forever. — a month ago
I am always amazed at how good these old martini wines can be. This wasn’t just good for its age, it was just good.
Great color/still sweet on the mouth/nice finish.
The vast majority of these old wines from them that I’ve had have been at worst good with several like this one being very impressive — 7 months ago
This is misidentified as Pinot noir as the back label lists about 5 other varieties. Then again the back label is generic enough that it seems they put them on all their bottles back then. No vintage noted but is an early 60’s bottling. Still bright with loads of red fruit. What I seem to detect is a slight VA but others with more experience with older vintages says that it was on point. I’m good on the palate just not the aromatics. For a 50yr old wine I’m good with it. — 4 years ago
Dark fruit, cherries, anise, and tobacco on the nose. Very dry wine. Dried fig, vanilla, more dark fruits, more cherry, and chocolate. Long finish of leather and oak. Drink now. Decant for an hour. — 6 years ago
Really good. — 7 years ago
Soft subtle fruit forward right out of bottle. Caymus like. — 8 years ago
This was tasty worth the extra $ — 2 months ago
Oak, chocolate, and leather. Big, rich, and full. — 4 months ago
The Monte Rosso was outstanding in every way- expressive nose of dark red fruits and layers that touched all parts of the palate. The flavors complimented a wonderful dinner. 8 years and still getting better. 100 year old vines that show how good Zinfandel can be when grown and tended to reveal their sense of place. Outstanding 🍷🍷🍷 — 7 years ago

The estate dates back to the Crusades, and Scottish navigator, George Smith, the owner in the 18th century. He was followed by M. Duffour-Dubergier, Mayor of Bordeaux, and then Louis Eschenauer, a famous wine shipper. In 1990, Daniel and Florence Cathiard now own the estate. Dark plum red with dark berry fruit aromas, herb and spice from young Cab vines. On the palate complex sweet black fruit flavors and cacao notes. Firm tannins, rich and full, lingering, mineral ending, unlike the ‘10 wait a few years. — 8 years ago
