Château Margaux

Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2001

The sleeper vintage, one at this time I bet to be even more showy than the illustrious 2000. It’s simply just ready to go after a short decant wafting from the glass with layers of cassis, black truffle, violets and licorice. This is a wine of texture and elegance, as Margaux should be—It’s liquid cashmere in the mouth with melting tannins and a black truffle and mineral inflicted finale that keeps on going. Superb showing tonight, with still a long life ahead. — 3 days ago

6/25 - don’t have good notes, but I remember this being soft and complex and very earthy. Still had good structure. Fruit had somewhat faded. Truly a grand old Bordeaux. 90 — 13 days ago

Château Giscours

La Sirène de Giscours Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

La Sirène de Giscours – Margaux 2020
Second label of Château Giscours | Margaux, Bordeaux 🇫🇷

The 2020 vintage of La Sirène de Giscours is a brilliant expression of its noble lineage. As the second wine of the historic Château Giscours, a 3rd Growth Grand Cru Classé with origins dating back to the 16th century, this bottle delivers elegance and complexity with a youthful charm.

🍇 A well-balanced blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, aged in oak barrels, the wine opens with intense red fruit aromas; think raspberry, redcurrant, and hints of violet and subtle spices. There’s a bright vibrancy to the bouquet, underscoring the freshness that defines the Margaux terroir.

On the palate, it’s refined and approachable, with crunchy fruit, polished tannins, and a graceful, persistent finish. The structure is fine-boned yet present, a hallmark of great Margaux, and makes it very drinkable now, while also showing potential for short- to mid-term cellaring.

🫶 Recommended: Decant before serving to enhance aromatic expression.
🍽 Perfect Pairings: Roasted lamb, grilled duck breast, or a plate of aged cheeses.

A beautiful snapshot of Margaux elegance at an accessible level. Santé! 🍷✨

Château d'Issan

Blason d'Issan Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

This wine is helping me stain a table for my kiddo who's heading off to school 😢
But, it is an excellent wine! Good Lord it's very well made. Perfect today and will be perfect in 5 years. Ripe fruit, bit of leather, smooth tannins. A man's gotta believe in something, and I believe I'll buy more of this.

Surprisingly good for such a young wine. Paired really well with steak dinner on this Friday night. Smooth, but firm with dark berries and earthy notes. Better than I expected — 16 days ago

Château Cantenac Brown

BriO de Cantenac Brown Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!

Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.

Fruity nose of blueberries, plums, light oak, spices, chocolates and coffee.

Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with cherries, plums, light oak, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, herbs and spices.

Nice finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 9 year old Merlot from the great 2016 vintage in Margaux still feels young. Rich and fruit forward. Spicy and entertaining.

An easy drinking Merlot that will continue to age nicely in the next 5 years.

Good by itself or with food.

A blend of 49% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Cabernet Franc. Aged in (25% new) French Oak barrels for 12 months.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$45.

I’ve given this better rating so I probably should have decanted and had it with a heavier dinner. So nice though… — 9 hours ago

Margaux Cabernet Sauvignon - Merlot Blend 2012

Meaningfully better than this was nearly 2 years ago when I had it last. Gave it 4 hours open in the bottle before a 1.5 hour decant. Paired with burgers on the grill. Pretty classic left bank, more refined and slightly “lighter” than many. Great acid on the finish, and a nice density overall. Def one to drink up but can’t complain. — 17 days ago
