Reserve Vermentino 2023

This wine looks yellow-gold with a greenish tint to it. The nose is quite aromatic, displaying a floral note along with massive citrus minerality. The palate has lemon, lime and grapefruit flavors joined by a wonderful salinity. The acidity is very fresh, but the mouthfeel has, overall, a rather soft touch. It’s great to find a Vermentino of this quality that’s made in America. Virginia is for Vermentino lovers, I suppose. — a year ago

Meritage Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2011

I don’t know how many bottles of this I had, but this was my last one. From a remarkably wet vintage, Mark was able to use more PV to add tanning and depth of flavor to really save this build. Ironically, day two was better than day one! Flavors really unfurled as would be indicative of a highly concentrated wine. This was a real education in a bottle. — 3 months ago

Virginia Cabernet Franc 2016

Loved the maturation on this bottle at nine years old: Sturdy and structured. Concentration of ripe red fruit plus plenty of phenolic verve. A fantastic representation of a masculine Virginia CF — 7 months ago

Napa Valley of the East. Big, bold, delicious. Virginia knows Petit Verdot. — 3 years ago

Monticello Petit Manseng 2022

Pristine balance - A deft touch in tempering acid and monitoring sugars. This version was very oriented towards a broader spectrum of entrées. In other words, the big fruit acids were lowered, and the intense sugary mouth feel was more elegant. — 5 months ago

Petit Manseng 2023

10/10/24 ALX Best of Virginia wine class. 100% Petit Manseng. Loved this one! Extremely tart and citrusy, light and refreshing. One of my (and Erin the wine guru!) favorite VA wines! — 2 years ago

Lost Mountain Red Bordeaux Blend 2011

This was really impressive. My first try of Virginia wine and what a great example of the potential. Mesmerizing aromatics. Berries, herbs, coffee beans, rosemary, underbrush. Silky on the palate with a fresh and tannic finish. It’s a shame Virginia wine is almost impossible to find in Europe. If I could, I’d explore more. — 3 years ago
