Really liked this. Dense, brooding dark fruits, charcoal, dark chocolate, espresso froth, leather. Paired nicely with a double-patty burger. — 7 years ago

Las Piedras Vineyard Beckstoffer Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

This has got to be the most intricate and detailed label I have ever seen. The back label gives so much information on the vineyard, down to the soil type and composition! I believe Jeff Ames (of Tor & Rudius) is the winemaker here.

@Mark Flesher opened this beauty and it had us thinking the entire time we enjoyed it (only a glass or two before needing to leave). I'll be honest...I'm not sure I've had a Las Piedras wine before. This had a lot more red fruit to it than I expected. At 7 years old, this hasn't even begun its ascent to its peak. The nose on this was gorgeous...that sweet/candied liqueur note alongside dusty blackberries. Almost a bit more pine than cedar here. Rhubarb. The mid palate here is very elegant. Mark mentioned that the nose and entry reminded him of a Caymus SS. The finish seemed like it couldn't make up its mind. Currant, red licorice and faint nutmeg. I feel like this probably revealed much more on day 2...Mark, let me know how it evolved!

Shay, this wine was still a little bit weird even after it sat a few more hours. Completely intriguing. Gradually the youthful nose disappeared and showed a little more black fruit. One thing that absolutely cannot be denied is the structure of this wine was impeccable and this one is Y-O-U-N-G, showing zero signs of age since the BARREL it seems. This one will probably be more my style in 10 years....provided I don't sell it or trade it before that!

Alexander Valley Grenache 2013

Yeah, it smells like new world Grenache (a little rhubarb and tangy red berries), but with a little plumpness and fat dark berries that reminds me fleetingly of Alexander Valley Merlot. Round and flavorful, very satisfying flavors to go with my 🌮s. A little peppery heat at the end. — 7 years ago

Savory Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Last of the blind Napa Valley Mountain reds. Dark and deep purplish red. Thick and layered nose with notes of dark mountain berries and sweet spices. Still a baby through out, from the nose through the palate. Heavy chewy tannins (8/10) and full bodied. Very dark and layered palate with notes of purple flowers, bramble berries, black berries, cassis and dark crushed gravel. Long and lingering finish. Built as a big boy mountain Cabernet, definitely worth it. Drink from 2019 till 2039. (94+) | Release price is $135.

Coming up in their next release Rudius will be donating 10% of all sales to help aide those affected by the fires across Northern California. Beside being amazing wines this is also an amazing cause. I will let you guys know as soon as I do when they set it up.

Farella

Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

After enjoying Realm and Rudius Farrella cabs, decided to try the bottling form the source. Excellent wine. Floral and red and black fruit on the nose. Great mouthfeel, smooth and a bit chalky. For a 2018 very easy to drink. 30 min decant. Really enjoyable at a great price. — 4 years ago

Sugarloaf Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2014

Because who doesn’t love to celebrate national Cab Franc day? @rudiuswines is Brittany & Jeff Ames label. Jeff was an early understudy to Thomas Brown, working on Schrader, Maybach, and Outpost amongst others while he developed his own client list, including Tor Kenward, Boich, and Anthem. It’s worth noting that the wines Jeff has produced for Tor have been some of my favorites for at least a decade.

The 2014 Rudius Cabernet Franc Sugarloaf Vineyard Napa Valley envelopes your plate with a captivating display of mouthwatering raspberry, savory loam, sweet tobacco, and just the right hint of bell pepper before the cocoa powder dusted finish rocks your world. Delicious is an understatement. This was so spectacular I opened it two nights in a row (run don’t walk to Sunshine and steal it for $40). #delicious

This os surprisingly DYNAMITE!!! Blueberry, blackcherry, ripe...nose is leather, campfire, leftover bacon, smoky with an amazing aftertaste. Different than a Northern Rhone as it has a little more alcohol, little more ripe...but damn, the aromatics...i crave it... — 7 years ago
