Rose Prosecco 2019

One of the first Italian Prosecco Rosé’s on the market in Australia 🍾

Mr. Spittoon and I loved it! It’s a gorgeous pearly-peach colour in the glass with an elegant perfume of citrus, stonefruit and raspberries & cream. In the mouth it’s super smooth and absolutely moreish. I could easily drink this Prosecco Rosé at any time of the day. Being fairly light in alcohol (11.5%), it would make a fantastic breakfast or brunch bubbly in my opinion.
I will definitely be drinking this one again!

A big thank you to BABO for sending this sample my way! I was under no obligation to post about it and all opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Codorníu

Cuvée Clasico Cava Blend

This week we celebrated 11 weeks of our baby TC with a bit of Spanish Cava 🍾

Mr Spittoon and I spent 6 weeks in Cava country in the Penedes, Spain back in 2011 and we actually visited Codorniu on a day trip from Barcelona. Swipe across to see some pics from our visit - naturally I was on my best behaviour 😜

This is their signature bubbles which you can buy for $12 at Dan Murphy’s. It’s cheap and cheerful and many bottles have been consumed of it in our house.

In the glass it’s a pale yellow colour with teeny tiny bubbles. On the nose fresh apples and pears with vanilla citrus come through. While in the mouth it’s spritzy and dry with a nice oomph of fruit. Uncomplicated and easy drinking. Perfect for first time parents 🤪

Château Joanin Bécot

Côtes de Castillon Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

Needs 1-2 hours of air. Muted dark fruits. Tastes like salty wet rocks aged in fine French oak. Finely balanced tobacco spittoon in Asia. Pairs perfectly with Leg of lamb covered in dirt. — 9 years ago

Icewine Niagara Peninsula Riesling 2017

Happy International #RieslingDay to all my fellow Riesling fans 🥂

Mr. Spittoon and I decided to delve into the cellar and we pulled out this @inniskillinwines 2017 Icewine Riesling from the Okanagan Valley in Canada 🇨🇦

My brother and sister-in-law gave this to us in 2019 after their visit to Canada (which is the worlds largest ice wine producer!).

What is Icewine 🧊🥂?

It’s not wine you add ice too 😯

But it is wine which is made from frozen grapes 🍇. The grapes naturally freeze on the vines and are picked when the temperature drops below -9 degrees Celsius 🥶

Not much liquid comes out of the grapes when they are pressed. So what comes out is super concentrated and full of luxurious flavour 🤤

The natural high acidity in Riesling grapes means the variety is perfect for Icewine production 🙌

I’m not a big sweet wine drinker but when they have that perfect balance of sweetness and acidity, they are pure magic in the mouth 👌

And this Riesling Icewine was exactly that! From its beautiful golden amber colour to the mouthwatering aromas of juicy oranges, Manuka honey and stone fruits. The flavours flow through to the palate and it’s a true pleasure to drink with its lovely acidity. We matched it with cheese, prosciutto and crackers - which were the perfect compliment 👌

Original Recipe Amaro Liqueur 1894

One more to review (says she giving her spittoon side eye). Unless another amaro shows up before the end of the week. I’ll taste it! Not that this assignment was displeasurable! Into this. If mint, kumquats, and undisclosed herbs had a love child that is this. One of the lightest and brightest. Sunshine out of the Czech Republic. Another fave. — 8 years ago

Soumah

Equilibrio Single Vineyard Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2018

‘Best in Show’ at the 2020 Decanter World Wine Awards 🏆

Well done Soumah and thank you so much for sharing a bottle of your award winning Yarra Valley (VIC) 2018 Equilibrio Chardonnay with us. It’s a true beauty 🥰

Equilibrio means balance and that’s exactly what Soumah set out to achieve (and succeeded) when making this wine - a balance between acidity and fruit with no edges.

We enjoyed this $80 bottle in the best way we could - just the two of us (I wouldn’t want to share it with anyone else, Mr Spittoon was actually lucky to get some 😂), on the couch in my trackies and slippers. It was pure delicious relaxation!

It was like a meal in a glass - so flavoursome and delicious. Utterly smooth and silky and the flavours only got better the more the wine warmed up (as opposed to straight out of the fridge). Right from the beautiful yellow shimmering gold hue, I was in love. Orchard fruits, pastry, citrus and some nuttiness come through on both the nose and in the mouth. Delectable!

This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.

It's Not My Fault I Like Bubbles Pinot Noir Rosé

Happy 10 weeks us! I don’t think I’ve ever appreciated my post-8pm wine as much as I have over the last 10weeks (8pm is the little man’s bedtime 😜). And this one is a beauty too! Both Mr Spittoon and I were gushing over it.

A big thanks to @goodpairdays for this sample bottle! If you’d like a discount on your first GPD order make sure to use the code “travellingcorkscrew” to get $23 off 🙌

This “It’s not my fault I like bubbles” NV Sparkling Pinot Noir Rosé is made by @lansdownewine in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia - home to the ‘slowest growing vines’ in the region.

In the glass it’s a very pretty peachy pink colour. On the nose I’m picking up strawberries, raspberries and candied citrus. It’s fresh, fruity and bloody inviting! In the mouth it has such a smooth texture with those red berries coming through alongside peaches and lemon curd. Be careful with this one as it’s so easy to consume!! Yumo!
