WOW! One of the best pleasures in life is enjoying a spectacular wine at its pinnacle. Tonight was one of those nights. Dining with life long friends we enjoyed this wine. A dear friend selected this bottle as a backup for dinner. A definite case of Wally Pip taking the day off. This wine is not just peaking, it sings from the glass. Everything you expect from a classic Napa Cab with the style, elegance, and finesse of a First Growth in spades! You want aromatics, here is red and black fruits, cigar tobacco, lavender, anise, scorched earth, Asian spice…okay so we drifted into mid palate yummy flavors. A finish that lingers while dancing over the palate for more than 30 seconds, titillating the taste buds into pleasurable submission. Did I mention the WOW factor? This wine has it! Where can we find more?!?? What a spectacular selection! — 4 years ago

Tonight's wine is the 2014 Domaine Berrien Cellars Cabernet Franc. Domaine Berrien is my go to winery in Southwest Michigan. Wally and Katie Maurer run a very good operation that I know I can count on for good expressions of Southwest Michigan wine.
On the nose is pronounced red berry fruit, cherry, sweet strawberry, sweet raspberry, pepper, herbaceousness, baking spice and dusty soil.
The red fruit continues through to the palate, tart strawberry, red raspberry, green bell pepper that I Love in my cab franc, tart plum, a touch of oak and a nice minerality.
This is a medium bodied wine with medium + acidity, medium smooth tannins and a long enjoyable finish. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 9 years ago
Today I have decided to go to my cellar and pull the 2012 Domaine Berrien Cellars Crown of Cab. One of the best winery's in Southwest Michigan if not the best. This is a Bordeaux blend of 40% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec. What a wine from Wally Mauer and the Domaine Berrien winery.
On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, anise, violet, baking spice and crushed gravel.
On the palate I am getting black cherry, blackberries, green bell pepper, black currant, violet, black pepper, graphite and earth.
This wine is full bodied with a smooth mouthfeel, medium to medium + acidity and medium + grippy mouthcoating tannins that leaves you with a long black fruit woodsy finish. What a wonderful Sunday wine. This winery in Southwest Michigan is my absolute favorite and can compete with any California winery out there. I hope everyone's weekend has been an eventful one. Please stay safe and healthy and have a wonderful week ahead. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 5 years ago

Had a 97 Coulee Serrant earlier this year that ended up being so close to this in a holistic sense; that inescapable electricity on the palette and such a complex nose that could easily be mistaken for a shy nature of unripe fruit. It’s obvious why this is a premier Cru monopole that gets its own cute little label design in such a large wine-making house as Drouhin. Truly a special plot firing like proper vinifera nerve endings on planet earth should. Some may think this is subtle. This takes space and depth as the taster to allow this to sink deeply.👌🏼 thanks Wally wine for redeeming itself on this and Bachelet 05 aligote. These two whites have been some of the highlights of my recent wine experiences. — 9 years ago
We got this from Wally & Katie 12-16. I am not a fan of Pinot noir, but I really liked this - fruity and tasty good! Had with corned beef for St Patty's Day. — 9 years ago

I’ve followed this wine since 2004. It was unbelievably good at that time (2002 vintage). Like most really nice wines that get popular, as the price goes up, the quality goes down. Sadly, that is how I’ve viewed McManis wines for about the last 10 years. Out of nostalgia I bought this Lodi Estate Grown Cab 2018 at Walmart for $11.99. Wow, I thought it was 2004 again. I’m going back to Wally World tomorrow to get more. This is GREAT wine at this price point. — 5 years ago

In southwest Michigan I am a big fan of the Domaine Berrien Cellars. Tonight I have opened the 2012 Domaine Berrien Cellars Pinot Noir. Wally Maurer does a great job as owner and winemaker.
On the nose I am getting cherry, strawberry, some good funk, caramel, sassafrass, vanilla, light oak, rose petal and earth.
On the palate there are notes of sour cherry, strawberry, cranberry, clove, cola, mushroom, some herbaceousness, light oak and dusty soil.
This wine is medium bodied with medium to plus acidity and medium to plus smooth tannin that leads into a pleasant medium to long finish. A very nice pleasing pinot from the southwest wine region of Michigan. Enjoy the rest of your week and please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 8 years ago
Much better than it should be for a bottle of wine less than $20 from Walmart. Found it neglected on the shelf and gave it a home.
Perfect depth, pleasant flavor and easy to drink. I only wish more of the staff at the local Wally World had cast out some of its friends. — 9 years ago
