Abbazia di Novacella (Stiftskellerei Neustift)
Alto Adige - Valle Isarco Kerner
Valle Isarco / Eisacktal, Alto Adige, Trentino-Alto Adige, ItalyWhite, excellent clarity. Floral and musky notes in nose. Floral and spice flavors, slight skin astringency, crisp perfumed finish. My first tasting of this varietal, a really nice wine

About a dozen times enjoyed over the last ten years or so, this is always an absolute stunner, especially with sushi. Great acidic lift and bright stone fruit with subtle spice - kind of Pinot Grigio flavors with Riesling structure and mouthfeel.

Stunning! Sort of a Riesling with more spice and grip. Subdued, but sweet nose, initial palate sweetness drying out towards the finish. Lovely minerality, slate, long finish. Amazing QPR this punches way above its weight.

This is wine turned out to be a rare find in the US, as it's acreage is waning in it's birthplace, Germany, and even Japan (ca. 250 ha.) plants more Kerner than Italy (ca. 83 ha) does!
A 1920s cross between Trollinger (red grape) and Riesling, this grape, similar to Sylvaner, boasted a racy, fruity and way nutty/earthy/leathery flavor with a showy acidity. I was quite pleased with this find here on the West Coast and enjoyed every sip of it.
