Langhe Nebbiolo
Langhe, Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy

Burnt rubber with strawberry nose. The burnt rubber blew off after an hour of decanting. Left me with a true to type Langhe nebbiolo that is drinking well already but no rush to consume these. These wines are not really up to my alley, hence the moderate score. I can imagine a 94/95 if you are into these wines.
Review from Jancis (17/20); Fruit comes from MGA Roncaglie (420 m) and Bussia (350 m) facing west, with the sun in the afternoon. The vineyards were vinified separately and fermentation triggered by a pied de cuve prepared in both vineyards, ‘because, in hot years, not only the vines are stressed but also the yeast’. The Bussia part was fermented and aged in concrete, Roncaglie also in concrete and a bit aged in large oak.
Just mid ruby. Lifted spice, cherry nose with hints of oatmeal, garden herbs and stones emerging with aeration. Gorgeous, sappy palate with grainy tannins weaved into the cherry fruit. Firm structure and lots of juice yet, at the same time, kind of taut.

Muskiness of fog and Italian hills.
Crunchy, tannins, nice acidity too. Leather, black spices, nice heat.

Half destemmed half whole cluster, very interesting. Trippy, it’s so earthy and floral with subtle red fruit and zippy acid that it’s reminiscent of a Pinot noir but those grippy tannins ring true of Nebbiolo. Give me this and a nice fatty slab of duck breast please. Quite smooth already, I’d love to try this in a few years.
