d'Arenberg
The Dead Arm McLaren Vale Shiraz
McLaren Vale, Fleurieu, South Australia, Australia
Very dark almost black or brown in color, fruit blackberry, musty, more acidic and spicy. I really didn’t enjoy it. The spice stick to the top of my mouth and I did not enjoy the finish.

This wine is clear and deep purple in colour.
On the nose it is clean of pronounced intensity. Aromas of dark fruit (plum, cherry & blackcurrent) as well a peppery spiciness along with vanilla, clove and a savouriness.
The palate is dry, with medium acid and alcohol. Medium but smooth tannin, medium (+) body and flavour intensity which presents the same flavours as in the nose. The finish is medium.
Although nothing stands out I think this is very well balanced and enjoyable.

👁 Clear dark ruby, sediments on bottom. Such intense colour concentration!
👃 Nose of spices and black fruits --cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, anise
👅 Earthy, but not too dirt-like. Balanced very well with just the right amount of fruit and spice.
✍️ What a pleasure to get my paws on this. It's a BIG wine, but so well-structured and so complex. 2010 vintage is ready to drink now or can wait a few more years.

I have to say the young 2013 vintage goes better with food than by it self. Jammy nature balances well with the fat in the food.
