Domaine Jean-Louis Chave
Hermitage Blanc Marsanne Roussanne
Hermitage, Northern Rhône, Rhône, France

Opened prior to dinner. The 1999 Blanc pours a slightly hazy, amber color with medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of butterscotch, mango, ripe melon, guava, beeswax, mushroom, white and yellow flowers, and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, almost decadent and full of mushrooms. Both intellectual and hedonistic. Drink now through 2034.

I brought this. Medium gold to gold in the glass, heavy. Notes of sauteed apricots, pears, orange marmalade and marzipan. Rich and heavy, but has some sneaky acidity. In a good spot, I'd drink these sooner rather than later.

#Took about an hour after decanting to really strut its stuff. Still young.

A very special wine to be able to taste. Super unctuous and incredible textural complexity. Saturated with aroma/flavor. Ripe citrus, dried apricot, quince paste, marzipan, beeswax, honeysuckle, pastry cream, warm spice, honey, almost this burnt sugar thing I find in Champagne, and a rocky underpinning throughout. Advanced in every way possible.

Feb 10th, 2017Blanc from mag - pretty shut down right now compared to the Chapoutier. I'd wait at least ten years to open another, 15+ from mag.
