We are upon another weekend and tonight I have opened the 2016 Saint-Damien Classique Vieilles Vigne Gigondas. This is a Rhone Blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre.
On the nose there is ripe strawberry, black cherry, black raspberry, black currant, black pepper, thyme, spice, licorice, violet and earth.
On the palate the nose is confirmed with black cherry, black raspberry, black currant, black pepper, lots of spicy nuance, licorice and earth.
This wine is medium to full bodied with medium + acidity and medium grippy mouth coating tannins that lead to a long rich dark fruit finish. I wonderful Rhone Blend that can be drunk now or store for another 5-10 years. Looks like a beautiful weekend is in front of us and you need to enjoy it. Be safe and have a great time.
