Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey
Bourgogne Chardonnay
Burgundy, France
Tasted a lot of 2023 burgundies last weekend. Thought I’d try a white with some age.
With aging white burgundy, sometimes it gives you a touch of v/a. This is on nose but not the palate. Believe it is v/a but there is some confusion with the scent of mushrooms. Thought it might be some burgundy cellar funk. But yes, some detectable v/a. Yet, it’s not entirely offensive.
The palate show excellent viscosity. It’s full & round. Golden-green apples, creamy lemons, some lime zest, both stone fruits, not so sweet pineapple syrup & kiwi notes, warm caramel, Brach’s butterscotch candy, gentle but thick honey, their is some unfortunate, faint wet cardboard that comes once it opens up, mushrooms, saline-sea foam, excellent, white spice, oyster fossils, touch of flintiness-gun powder, smooth chalky powder, wet limestone marl, some herbal notes, yellow lilies, white Spring florals set in greens, pleasant, round acidity with perfect balance, mid toned/structured, nicely knitted, elegant, rich finish that lasts 90 seconds and lands on spice, chalk and volcanic minerals on the long set.
Unfortunate about the minimal cardboard. I’d add a point, maybe two w/o it.

Lemon custard and lime, kiwi, coconut. Zippy, zingy minerals. Perfect use of oak. So good.

The nose reveals; golden raisins, green & golden apple, candied, sour lemons, lemon meringue, dry apricots, yellow peach, lime candy, cream, vanillin, warm caramel, candle wax, honeycomb, melted white butter, shade of herbaceousness, chalk, saline with white spring flowers, greens & withering yellow florals.
Big, beautiful, rich mouthfeel with excellent viscosity. Beautiful & well polished. Golden raisins, green & golden apple, candied, sour lemons, lemon meringue, dry apricots, yellow peach, lime candy, cream, vanillin, warm caramel, candle wax, honeycomb, melted white butter, shade of herbaceousness, chalk, saline with white spring flowers, greens & withering yellow florals. Cool shower acidity. The balance is excellent as is the consistent, persistent finish. You get some white spice with understated heat with great alluvial limestone minerality on the long set.

Stupid at under $40. Buy all you can.
Green & Golden apple, banana, lemon & lime candy, cream, super soft chalkiness, vanillin, fruit blossoms, spring flowers, jasmine caramel notes, honeysuckle to understated honey, with yellow florals, spring flowers with mixed greens. If you are an acid head (like me) it’s perfect. Excellent long finish that is well balanced, elegant, polished and sings persistently for minutes ending in mid white spice.

Again a bit underwhelming this pycm bb. Don’t know what is it, missed power and persistence to impress. Feel like you have to really really concentrate while drinking to get all the nuances and finesse. Too bad because all his other wines I enjoyed where of the hook.
