New world fruit with an old world palate: clean yet earthy, with plums, redcurrants, bramble and herbaceous tomato lead, dried violets, tar, rubber (but not overly so) and a dusty, peppery lift. 2011 vintage. Cask matured 20 months. Beautifully matched on nose and palate; sleekly robust.

It's easy to get stuck in to the rut of enjoying California wines (and I need to branch out to Oregon and Washington!), as we have access to some phenomenal New World US wines. In an effort to expand my knowledge, I began seeking out some South African wines, and @Greg Ballington knew just how to help. This is the first of 3 wines he sent (we did a wine swap) and a great start! This 2011 is drinking excellent right now, and I found it to drink just as well on the first day as it did the second. For the price, this is an awesome value. This is all red fruit like boysenberries and raspberries mixed with vegetal notes on the nose. The finish is full of herbs, red licorice and earthy undertones.

11' Rustenberg . Mostly Cabernet and Merlot... benefits with a long decanting. Absolutely old world meets new. Forest floor, tobacco, sweet black cherry, burnt wood. Nice & somewhat long finish. Many years in front of it.

Not much to add to the other reviews. Very well balanced between nose and palate. Big fruit flavors with some underlying green pepper. Mild tannins. Great wine, great value

My god the South Africans know how to make wine. Deep full bodied with good balance. Soft tannins, dark flavored plum and tobacco. This could have aged another 5-10 years easy.
