Warm scents of nutmeg and cloves on the nose. Just a hint of fruit on the front (pomegranate?). Medium-light tannic structure. Earth notes on the mid-palate. Strong finish of mineral and acidic high notes that resonate on the back of the throat after swallowing.
Its rough edges mellow an hour after being opened turning it into a comfort wine that would compliment roast beef or roast pork. Not particularly great as a standalone tipple, though. — 8 days ago
It’s got the nose of a Douro red, and the it’s got the punch of a Douro red on the first sip. Strangely enough it becomes a more normal rose on subsequent sips. Crisp and clean acidity until a few bitter high notes intrude on the finish. This is my new favorite rose! — a month ago
Tobacco and a hint of smokiness (in a good way) on the nose. Faint hint of red fruit on the front. Medium tannic structure — surprising for a Napa Valley Cab but with really lovely vibrancy. Light mineral highnotes on the finish. Lovely. — a month ago
A memorably bad wine! Tar and petrochemicals on the nose. Nasty sour fruit on the front. Chlorophyll notes on the middle palate. The finish is pleasant though. Cool menthol tannins cleanse the palate of the abuse it received on front of the tongue. Unfortunately it has a long finish and the sour fruit reasserts itself after you swallow. YUK! — 10 days ago
2023 opened October 2025. Chlorophyll on the nose. That doesn’t bode well for a tasty wine, but the rest of the wine is fairly inoffensive. Red licorice on the front. Light tannic structure. Cool mint and in a few warm mineral notes on the mid palate. Short finish with a quick tingle of high notes. Not an exciting wine, but very drinkable. — 2 months ago

Pretty frigging good for a wine that was stored upright for at least 10 years (by mistake)! The cork was falling apart, and air must’ve been oxidizing the wine, but through it all, it shines! And maybe it was improved by the less than optimal storage. I’ve always found that the Cabs and Pinots from the Santa Cruz Mountains are tight-fisted tannic balls. Perhaps it takes some suboptimal storage to make these vintages blossom.
Anyway, sage and old leather on the nose. Slughtly unripe red fruit on the front. But a medium- to-heavy tannic structure kicks in on the middle palate, which makes this wine delicious! Not a very long finish, but the notes of sage kick in at the end. Very nice!
I wish I had more of this vintage in my collection, but I may have used them for an adjuvant for pasta sauce too early in their development. Maybe I needed to treat them badly to make them shine? — 2 days ago
