Very fragrant. Sweet and floral on the nose.
First taste has a nice tartness that quickly evolves in luscious mango, passionfruit and peach. The aftertaste is floral with tones of Jasmin and Frangipani.

Les Fossiles Riesling 2014

Rubber, frangipani, lillies, clementine, white peach, candied grapefruit, slight honey. Quite dry, crushed slate like feels in the palate. Good finish, length is okay. Works wonders with pork. — 8 years ago

L'Olivaie Saint Joseph Syrah 2013

This has had a full 24 hours to open up and my god it has changed immensely. Showing such precision and beautifully ripe fruit. Crushed frangipani, ripe red currants, Apple bubblegum, rosewater, white pepper and raspberry liquor aromatics. Palate flows seemlessly, you wouldn't know you're drinking alcohol either. Berry acidity and subtle tannins to note too, an amazing wine — 10 years ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

Served blind. On fist sip I thought cab franc. On second merlot. I was told it was a blend. I figured cool blue fruits it could be Sonoma. It was a bit closed at first but 30 minutes later it exploded with a plushy softness. Wonderful frangipani, cardamom and reddish cassis. This is really quite beautiful and a real treat. Thank you Ray for sharing. — 11 years ago

I have no idea why rating average is in the 8s on this. The only reason I didn't go higher was a somewhat short finish. So large, natural, supple and above all human. Amazing aromatics: baking spice, Asian spice. Honey, acacia, chamomile, frangipani. An important wine, its beauty transcendent. — 11 years ago

Gentis Red

Cabernet Franc on the label with a spicy 15% SMV blended into this wine. A strange mix that seems to work perfectly. A Jasmine / Frangipani floral, yet spicy nose with super silky tannins. A real crowd pleaser with a quaffable finish. — 5 years ago

Domaine Méo-Camuzet

Aux Murgers Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 1993

Sexy and seductive, with black and red stone fruits (black cherry especially), frangipani, marzipan, and that ethereal icing sugar sweetness that comes with age. Just a beautiful Burgundy with the hallmarks of the Mei-Camuzet style. Still lots left in the tank for this one, thought sadly my last bottle — 8 years ago

Love love love this wine. Made by Gerhard Kraacher. Haven't had it since New York, so plsed to finally find it in CA. Orange chiffon, tiaré, which I think means frangipani, sandy sun-blasted air, and marzipan. Stellar with southern Indian food. Get some. — 11 years ago

Nope - a tiaré is a Tahitian gardenia - wine smells like frangipani too.

Domaine Tempier

Cuvée Spéciale La Tourtine Bandol Mourvedre Blend 1998

1998. The last of a case, and drunk with La Migoua of the same vintage, also the last of a case. La Tourtine has a higher percentage of Mourvedre (maybe 80%) and about about 10% each of Cinsault and Grenache, plus a dash of Syrah. This was lighter in colour, red fading to orange with a hint of brown, and initially more reticent on the nose. Like the Migoua, it evolved massively over several hours, and more than once I was questioning whether I'd poured the wrong wine into the wrong glass. (I hadn't.) Ultimately, I preferred the precision in the Tourtine, its fresheness and its subtle blend of black cherry, frangipani, citric peel, and apples maybe just turning to cider. One could very easily have called it as a Barolo. These impressions on the nose translated very nicely onto the palate, and there was just the right amount of acidity to sear the flavours into the memory. Such a great privilege to try these two cuvees side by side in their 20th year. — 8 years ago

I see Sarah is finally buying Sparky out. See many changes ahead MD? Also, the article I read mentioned that Sparky was finishing up a new solo project. Do you know what it is as the article did not elaborate?

Nah, will pretty well be business as usual. In terms of Sparky, there's no finishing of a solo project, he will no doubt do one but one is yet to even start as to let alone be finishing. @David T

Venezia Giulia Pinot Grigio 2010

Beautiful bitter peel, pear skin, candle wax. Much more austere than 2009, which was all floral 'ramato' pink citrus. 2010 showed much more in the "cold" flavor spectrum, cold restrained aromatics, white spice, hint of frangipani. — 11 years ago
