Carmen Frida Kahlo Sauvignon Blanc Reserva 2024
Central Valley, Chile 🇨🇱
Overview
100% Sauvignon Blanc from Viña Carmen, Chile’s first winery founded more than 170 years ago. This Reserva bottling is inspired by the iconic strength and character of Frida Kahlo, bringing a refreshing yet evolving style that blends joy, freshness, and quiet power.
Aromas & Flavors
Lively citrus, lime zest, and grapefruit upfront, layered with hints of passionfruit, gooseberry, and fresh herbs. As it opens, subtle tropical undertones of pineapple and guava appear, with a clean mineral streak running through.
Mouthfeel
Crisp and refreshing, medium-bodied with vibrant acidity. The texture balances brightness with a touch of roundness on the back palate, giving it more weight than a simple quaffer.
Winemaking Notes
Crafted in stainless steel to preserve varietal purity, with a Reserva designation ensuring slightly longer maturation and concentration of fruit compared to entry-level bottlings.
Food Pairing
Perfect with ceviche, grilled prawns, goat cheese salads, or sushi rolls. Its mix of freshness and texture also works well with light Thai or Vietnamese dishes.
Verdict
A Sauvignon Blanc that goes beyond simple refreshment — bright and joyful with a hint of depth. A fitting tribute to Frida Kahlo’s spirited personality, delivering both freshness and character in every sip. — 7 months ago
Color of saturated ruby with a mix of purple shades. Nose of vanilla, dried strawberries, hickory, dark ripe fruits in general, and a bit oak. Nose is round and refined. Taste of smoke acidity, ripe dark skin grape, cherry tobacco, mineral, sweetness from fruits and vanilla, a bit minty and zesty. Quite chewy and mouthful, very Syrah like. Aftertaste is medium long with sweet and zest note and backbone of tannins. I think she is pretty decent. — 6 years ago
”Wine” 3 from the banquet was Swedish, unbelievably sweet but balanced with acids and various fruity aromas - paired great with caramelized Frida apples, ice cream and punsch. — a year ago
