Just lovely :) a little richer & sturdier than the 15 — 6 months ago
First take: it’s a bit muddled and flabby….lacking crisp structure. It is young so I will test on day two. Day 2.5: impressively, air has brought this one to life! Clarity and articulation are now present. The character profile is still medium+ weighted fresh red/black cherry with a delicate green herby frame. What improved - the focus and clarity of the acidity. It broadened, thus mouthfeel improved. — 4 years ago
A very earthy red! Deep red, lots of tobacco, dried herbs, wet moss. A good recommendation that I would revisit. — 6 years ago
Enjoying the wine by the fire 🍷 Celebrating the win in Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon! 🏃🏻♂️🥇 — 7 years ago
12 was a classic year - not too hot, not very wet. A good year for acid! So, the Franc leads with 41% followed closely by CS at 35%. This creates a very unique profile that is often not employed by Virginia wine makers – a dance of two cabs. We took this bottle to a restaurant for steak (aged New York strip) with a nice char. Indeed, spice edge from the franc and the tannin from the Sauv made for a powerful cleansing combo!! While food functional, I only give this a 9.1 because it lacked elegance in the mid-palate flavor profile. Of course I should have expected that from a classic vintage where the sugars weren’t elevated – creating an extra rich core. One bottle remains. — 8 years ago
I don’t know how many bottles of this I had, but this was my last one. From a remarkably wet vintage, Mark was able to use more PV to add tanning and depth of flavor to really save this build. Ironically, day two was better than day one! Flavors really unfurled as would be indicative of a highly concentrated wine. This was a real education in a bottle. — 4 months ago
Wonderfully delicious four variety state blend from the foothills of the Blue Ridge. Exquisite viticulture - careful treatment in the wine room. Vibrant and energetic. Elegant and pure class. Red fruits and structure. — 7 months ago

Red berry, humid summer forest, hints of old leather jacket and hard candies on the nose. Plum, raspberry, tart cherry, notes of vanilla, soft puckering tannins lingering with juicy cranberry on the finish. Nice red for Virginia. Went well with pizza. — 6 years ago

Excellent blend, perfect with roasted turkey. Floral notes, delicate finish. — 8 years ago
This aged in barrel for a ridiculous 44 months… The complexity and breath was like a great reserva Rioja. Merlot was the lead - Jeff blended it from stocks he inherited from the previous owner. — 4 months ago
What a hidden Jim… The key ingredient here is the estate grown Nebbiolo worked into the pseudo SuperTuscan blend. Phenomenal flavor from the Virginia Piedmont. This was a recipient of a gold and more than deserving of it. — 7 months ago
Clean, beautiful fruit from Wild Meadow (think M.Shaps)… holding up nicely after eight years… Although the acid has weighed enough to make it difficult for cream based pairing options — 9 months ago
Signature smells of bright and fresh raspberry, cherry, and plum, with bramble, notes of bell pepper and mint, hints of baker's vanilla, cinnamon and clove, and faint whiffs of warm tires and fallen wet leaves. On the palate fresh but richer red fruit of cherry, cranberry, and raspberry, hints of asparagus, with a medium mouthfeel and medium-length finish. The 13.8% alcohol gave the body some weight but was a tad strong for the bright red fruit profile. Overall this is a balanced Loire-style Cab Franc. Went great with my portobello caps with homemade porcini-morel gravy; food and wine really brought out the spice flavors of each other. — 5 years ago
