" 30 months in Oak barrels adds a vanilla flavor to the beautiful ripe fruit in this structured wine." Made from the Noble tempranillo grapes, it's a wine for special moments. " — 5 years ago
Dark berries and vanilla scented, with bold ripe berries with the right amount of oak and tannin, long finish. Overall very easy and pleasant to drink. — 6 years ago
Amazing 2012 loved every bit of it, if you love dry red you will love this. — 7 years ago
Buying at the budget end while travelling is like throwing dice, but this Rioja Reserva (1 year in oak, 2 in bottle) delivered nicely at around 11€. Balanced, black/raspberry fruited, earthy, bit of spice, leather, gravelly tannin. If I find another bottle I’ll buy it! Ronda, Spain — 7 years ago
Carmen — Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2022, D.O. Maipo Valley, Chile 🇨🇱
Overview
A simple, casual, easygoing Cabernet built for everyday drinking rather than contemplation. Lightly spicy with juicy red and black fruit, soft structure, and friendly tannins, more “Netflix couch wine” than cellar trophy.
Aromas & Flavors
Black currant, red cherry, plum, mild peppery spice, touch of cocoa and gentle oak.
Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied, smooth and approachable, modest tannins, easy finish with no hard edges.
Food Pairings
Burgers, weeknight pasta, roast chicken, tacos, pizza night, or honestly… takeout + sofa.
Verdict
Straightforward and pleasant. Lacks complexity or depth, but delivers exactly what it promises: a relaxed, no-thinking-required pour. Good value, low stress, easy company.

Carmen is one of Chile’s historic wineries (founded 1850) and was instrumental in rediscovering Carménère as a distinct variety after it was long mistaken for Merlot.
Personal Pick
Not a study wine, a “second glass without noticing” wine. Perfect for unwinding when the day’s over and the brain is off duty. — 5 months ago
Nice drinkable red. Not too dry… good with seafood or pasta. — 4 years ago
Very nice. Smooth. — 5 years ago
I can smell the wind, the sun, the stone buildings of Spain in this well made of straightforward Rioja. This 2006 is just coming into it’s given that it may have been fruit forward in its early life. I prefer the crianza from this same wine maker, the reserva goes down enjoyably easy. — 7 years ago
Red fruit on the nose, raspberry’s. Love the fruit on the pallet with a nice long mineral like finish. Was rated 97 by decanter. Maybe a bit high, but for pop and pour, this bottle is pretty dang delicious. — 7 years ago
