Malvasia Nera 2020

A tiny bit of Brett on the nose, that blows away after a while. Strawberry, violet, a bit of soy sauce too. The wine is pretty light in colour, you can easily see your hand through it. The palate is delicious! It's a tangy red and black forest fruits bomb, complementing a strong acid drive. There is some width and a nice and soft mouthfeel that turns to a good tannic wall in the rear, but it's not overpowering, everything is in balance. There is a blood orange note in the finish, and a tiny salty touch, too that makes it very interesting to sip on. Moderately long finish. This screams low intervention but it is super well made. Thumbs up! — 2 years ago

Papa's Syrah 2016

Very nice syrah. Well balanced, nice lingering finish. Lots of fruit on the nose. Fruit forward in the pallet. Although high in alcohol it doesn't drink that way. It isn't hot in the least. — 5 years ago

Calaverna Umbria Grechetto 2021

Natty umbria white that has probably gone through skin maceration. The colour is golden orange, think bourbon cask matured single malt scotch. The nose is wild and a bit funky, with a bit of sulphuy notes, orange peel, honey, apricot. The palate is showing some acid drive but it's not acid driven. There is some width, some matter on the sides, some lemony, orangey notes, a bit of phenolic grip in the rear, disrupting the mouthfeel and leaving a drying layer over an orange peel, lemon peel and apricot/honey finish that goes on for a while. If you are into natty, skin contacts, wild whites from Italy, this is your stuff. If you don't care for that style look away. I like it! — a year ago

Lagar de Sabariz

A Pita Cega Abariño Blend 2015

Flagship white by the amazing Pilar Higuero, one of Spain’s most exciting proponents of biodynamic farming and the unofficial “lideresa” (leader) of the Spanish vignerons association “Artisan Wine Attraction.” The wine is named after the traditional children’s game “a pita cega” (“blindman’s buff” in English, literally “the blind hen” in Galician language) and the tools used to clean up vineyards in this spectacular biodynamic farm: a flock of chicken (Her red wine labels, on the other hand, feature the sheep used to graze and fertilize soils). Blend of mostly Albariño, Treixadura and other indigenous varieties, fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and aged on its lees for 20 months. Very expressive, complex nose with aromas of apples, white fruit, fennel, floral notes and minerals. Medium to full bodied, round, sumptuous on the palate. Lively, fresh, vibrant, good acidity.
