Call of the Brave Sangiovese Cabernet Franc 2017

First and last time, interesting Sangiovese 55 Cab Franc 45 from Texas! Very lean purplish floral notes into acidic lean but balanced palate — 4 months ago

Duchman Family Winery

Bingham Family Vineyards Trebbiano 2019

This is a very pale Texas wine with a very citric nose. Lemon leads the way, but there is lime and orange peel in play, too. A hint of lemon chess pie floats through the minerality along with an herbal note. The palate shows apricot and nectarine flavors filtering through the spicy greenness of the herbaceous essence of the wine. The acidity is zippy, but not overly so. Pairing this with a cool, green salad this summer is a no-brainer. — 4 years ago

Go Down Swinging Letkeman Family Vineyards Alicante Bouschet

It’s Southold, so you know I’m in. Serious question for those in the know... is there another Texas producer doing the type of cool stuff that SF+C is? Because you can basically sign me up for a case right now. Døk picked up raisins and cherry cola and frankly that’s spot on. — 6 years ago

A little “funkier” than I’m used to, but still smooth and easy. Not too sweet. — 7 years ago

Ron Yates

Texas High Plains Sangiovese Rosé 2017

Shay A
9.2

My last of 3 rosés from Ron Yates winery (Cinsault, Grenache, Sangiovese). Another really nice TX rosé that I think is probably one of my favorites I’ve had from TX.

This and the Cinsault are tied in score for me, both being quite enjoyable. The Cinsault was a bit more “soft” and fleshy fruit skin driven. This Sangiovese is more full fruit on nose and palate. Lots of strawberry...strawberry cream, strawberry pie (I pick up even a note of crust/yeast) and peach skin. Really nice acidity (probably a tad less than the Grenache). Sweet nectar and agave. Stone fruit. Had the most “going on” than the others. Another nice one,
@Ron Yates .

Foregone Conclusion Letkeman Family Vineyard Alicante Bouschet 2017

This is a first, CVed to taste for dry red for Evan cooking but the nose was great, lean yet floral, with leanness all the through on palate. Acidic firm texture, will be good food wine — 5 months ago

All Things Go Robert Clay Red Blend 2018

Regan Meador somehow quiets shouting grapes to a whisper. All Good Things is...all good things - a blend of Texas Tempranillo, Merlot, and Ruby Cabernet at about 11% - how he gets to these levels I have no idea. This is stemmy and light, brambly and harmonic. And you can taste the individual contributions - spiced cedar (Tempranillo), blackberry and raspberry jam (Merlot), and red currant cinnamon (Ruby Cab). — 6 years ago

Los Pinos Ranch Vineyards

Texican 2015

Great Texas wine with a delicious tart cherry bouquet. Overall it’s pretty well balanced, light oak, tart cherry flavor, spicy, slightly acidic, and low tannins. The acid and spice are a bit out of balance but don’t let that discourage you it’s a delicious and unique wine. — 7 years ago

Hunter Texas High Plains Red Blend 2023

Clear, medium ruby in color; on the nose, it's clean with pronounced intensity primary and secondary aromas of black cherries, red plums, raspberries, and dried herbs; on the palate, it's dry with high acidity, high tannins, medium alcohol, full body, and pronounced intensity primary and secondary flavors of red currants, cherries, blueberries, black currant, and clay pots with a long finish. This wine is complex and intense. Overall, I rate this wine as very good. — 5 months ago
