Aromatics of lime juice and talc/musk. A classic Watervale Riesling from the Clare Valley. On the palate those same limey flavours with a textural waxiness. Made by John Vickery who is regarded as the master of Australian Riesling. See my previous notes about John here on Delectable and his work with Leo Buring back in the 1970’s. An Australian icon-aged Clare Valley Riesling (in those days called Rhine Riesling unfortunately due to our country's slim knowledge base but later corrected against a barrage of opposition from conservatives and industrial makers of riesling, but not using riesling!) Classic glass of flavour; #honey #burnttoast #agedriesling #brulee #butter #crunch #yum #mouthful #watervale #treasuryestates ; wine made by the great man John Vickery before his defection to Richmond Grove when the Fosters people closed the brand down; but now it is back! Wine won three gold medals in the year of production-1990; probably never shown since. 12.5%; 1990 a terrific red year, usually not so for riesling; this had backbone; sweet acidity; nut power. — 12 years ago

Kerosene aromas - some toast. Lovely mature Clare Valley Riesling. Palate has filled out with the influence of citrus diminishing and stone fruit increasing - under ripe peach. Nearly up to the standard of past Rieslings from the storied Florita Vineyard where legendary Rieslings were made for Leo Buring by John Vickery back in the 1970s. Next day strong citrus flavours - remarkably young for a 9 year old Riesling. Will go for at least another 6 years. — 5 years ago
