People's choice at the Apéro Bordeaux Expérience on the rainy yet achingly hip Nüba rooftop, at Paris' Cité de la mode et du design. Big and fruity with just the right amount of oak and balanced tannins. Sipped with an epic plate of charcuterie and a soundtrack including the Jackson 5 - sometimes old school is best after all. — 10 years ago

A mysterious white from the Italian hills, aged in terracotta amphorae. Ever so slightly oxidised, crisp yet lingering. Divine with daurade, navets, pommes and cress at Paris Popup. — 10 years ago

Koshu, Japan's indigenous grape variety best known for it's giant table grapes, is transformed into a very quaffable white. Reminiscent of an Albariño with floral and citrus notes. 美味しい! — 10 years ago

Tannat - possibly the only palindrome grape variety - here in all it's unctuous, aubergine glory. Dark, stormy and passionate like a textbook Latin lover, it will mark you (and your couch if you're not careful). — 10 years ago

Surprisingly light Languedoc. Grenache and Shiraz blended to make a delightfully round, fruit-driven wine. Beautiful bottle art - goes to show you can choose a wine by its label! — 10 years ago

Domaine Sarnin-Berrux

An effervescent natural Syrah of unknown origin but assuredly 'artisanale'. In the background 'Stand by me' is playing so I might just have to take a leap of faith on this rainy Parisian Friday night and stand by Sarnin-Berrux and its mysterious and moody Syrah ... — 10 years ago

Atanasius is not quite as brutal as he looks. His label says he is 'Charming and accessible scent, open, affectionate and gentle. Very attractive on the palate, not shallow, has developed structure, but hasn’t tapped his full potential. Confident, straightfoward and full of youthful spirit.' For me he was earthy and slightly volatile. Maybe worth a second date. Who needs Tinder when you have personalised wine? — 10 years ago

Just when I thought my love for Grüner Veltliner couldn't get any stronger (still considering as a possible name for first born), I discovered this rare late harvest wine from one of my favourite producers. Elixir of bliss. Paired with Paris Popup's treacle pudding, earl grey ice cream and bergamot syrup. — 10 years ago

California meets Burgundy and it's love at first sight - the most beautiful marriage of old and new world pinot styles I have ever come across. A harmonious and subtle balance of fruit, spice, pepper, smoke and undergrowth. Divine with Paris Popup's chicken, coffee-infused carrots and spelt. — 10 years ago

A fantastic Tassie Pinot made by prodigal daughter Anna Pooley, 2010 Australian Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year. Beautifully balanced fruit, pepper and wood. Delicious with barbecued lamb cutlets and giant mushrooms looking out over the Bay of Fires at sunset. — 10 years ago
