I drink very little Rioja or Toro or Ribera del Duero because I’m just not a big Tempranillo guy, but I popped this one because I’m cooking a Spanish chicken and rice dish tonight. It’s pretty good. Nose is quite earthy, with lots of loamy soil notes. The oak seems under control and is hard to pick out. Some dark tangy berry fruit under the earthiness. On the palate, there’s some nice soft berryish fruit up front, and, surprisingly, a little slatey minerality. Very nice acids. Should go well with the meal, which is almost ready. I’m happy I like a Tempranillo! This seems quite fresh still and should last several more years.

Color of dark purple, nice legs. Nose of nice dark fruits, a bit oak, some aldehyde, some strawberries and vanilla, and a bit spicy. Nose is good. Taste follows the nose with addition of balanced acidity, rind, almost faint tannins, some minty note, more berries note, black pepper, and more oak. Clean and tasty. Aftertaste is medium long with some more ripe currants not. Nice one.

A solid Rioja for under 20$
Cherry wood nose.
Black berry and cherry fruit leather, mint, popsicle stick tannins.
Nothing outrageously descriptive here, just a solid wine.
Drink above cellar temp .
