Chosen for dinner by John Brecher and Dorothy Gaiter in honor Open That Bottle Night. Very beautiful for about 10 minutes before it began to fade. Dipped whiling talking wine politics and feminism with Karen MacNeil the other fellows at The Professional Wine Writers Symposium. What an honor to get to share in this with peers!

Medium garnet and brick red. Lush and layered nose with cedar, leather, animal nuances, and dried cherries. So well rounded and integrated tannins (6/10). Medium plus to full bodied. Killer palate with tons of leather, wood chips, cherries and some plums. Long and lingering finish with great acidity.

Vintage selection from block f-1. Upright redwood tanks used for fermentation. Austere wine with a long finish. Truly a special experience.

It was a tough night... but the Charles Krug was the WOTN for me. It wasn’t about the points, but it’s grace and elegance. Lots of fruit still evident, while tertiary notes of tobacco, sage and spice box poke the mid-palate. A historic tasting I’ll never forget. Thank you @David L 😍

Super strong, especially from magnum. These wines from '74 do not disappoint.

We tasted the 1974 and it was amazingly fresh, with beautiful fruit on the nose and on the palate, and a smooth long finish. Fabulous!

1974 Charles Krug from Napa Valley had a gorgeous silky smooth texture with earthy aromas of dried leaves, forest floor and sweet tobacco. History in a glass!

Still in amazing shape. A lot of fruit remains and the finish is quite nice.
