Château Beychevelle
Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend
St. Julien, Médoc, Bordeaux, France
Last night we opened the 2003 Château Beychevelle. Left Bank Bordeaux from Saint-Julien. This is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot.
On the nose there is black cherry, black raspberry, tobacco, fig, black currant, cedar, black pepper and spice box.
On the palate there is black cherry, black raspberry, black plum, fig, cassis, black currant, tobacco, spice and earth.
This wine has evolved in two years to more rustic and earthy tones since I had last had the 2003. This is still full bodied with medium acidity down from the medium + acidity of two years ago and medium+ fine smooth sweet tannins which still leaves you with a long rustic dark fruit earthy finish. Have a great weekend and please stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Tonight I have opened the Fourth Growth 2003 Château Beychevelle. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and the remainder has parts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
On the nose there is black cherry, black plum, black raspberry, red currant, vanilla, mint, licorice and earth
On the palate there are notes of cherry, black cherry, raspberry, black currant, licorice, mint, tobacco leaf, some oak and earth.
This wine is medium to full bodied with a smooth supple mouth feel, medium to medium + acidity and medium to medium + fine tannins that lead into a medium to medium long earthy finish. We are starting to see more people out and the streets a bit more congested. Please use common sense and stay safe and be healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

From an Imperial bottle (6L). Very closed nose, but floral and vegetal, surprisingly youthful on the palate. Too young I think
