An enchantingly beautiful nose. Licorice, walnut, ink, cured meats. Fresh and energetic, yet also powerful and round. On the palate, the tannins and acidity create an impression that is still quite boisterous. It is beginning to enter its drinking window, but there is no rush. Once the acidity and tannins have integrated further—perhaps in a year or three—it will, quite possibly, become even more lovely. 93+ — 2 hours ago

On the nose, the wine is developing with powerful notes of cassis, brambles, tobacco, leather, cocoa, some graphite, inorganic earth and a mix of herbs and fine warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is medium+. The fruit is generous and sort of the star of the show. I always get excited when there’s a bottle of Calon-Ségur open. Classic Saint-Estèphe and, to my palate, these wines consistently deliver what I want from a Left Bank Bordeaux. I believe this bottle was double-decanted prior to service. The 1988 pours a garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some fine sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with winsome notes of ripe, tart and dried fruits: cassis, mixed brambles, pencil shaving’s, tobacco, capsicum, a whiff of horse blanket, gravelly earth and a mix of herbs and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin (integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is long. I absolutely love it. This is the picture of Bordeaux in the dictionary. Drink now through 2048+. — 20 days ago

Expressive nose of blackcurrant and dark cherry with hints of dried fruit nuances, along with cedar, graphite, and dried herbs. The palate is dense and layered, and becomes quite seamless after about 2 hours - nice balance of acidity, fruit concentration and tannic grip.

Initially, this was a bit closed with fruit notes dominating, but after an hour long decant it opened up nicely. The nose has mostly cassis and herbal flavors, and on the palate, cassis, tobacco, bay leaf, dried sage, dark chocolate, and graphite notes come through nicely. Has good acidity, and tannins are well integrated. Super tasty and paired well with rosemary and thyme roasted rack of lamb with potatoes and eggplant. — 13 days ago

2019 vintage. A blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Petit Verdot. First year of conversion to organic viticulture. The second wines of the big boys have never been better, and this is another good example. Raspberry, cassis, a hint of pencil shavings, and a little smokiness. Good concentration, charm, complexity and length. Good value for an appellation where you don't go shopping with 10 euro, but that rarely disappoints. 2023 vintage. More Cabernet Sauvignon (61 %) compared to Tronquoy 2023 tasted alongside, with 38% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc. More flowers ( it seems to me that somehow 2023 is the floral vintage), cassis, blackberries and a mineral touch (less pronounced compared to the Tronquoy). Elegant, ripe and juicy. — 7 days ago
