Pleasant and true to type Garnacha. Ruby red, floral, some Flintstone vitamin on the nose. Fruity and tannic.

Cheap Saint Emy. The Cab Franc really pokes its head out, giving nice balance between fruit and savory things. Lots of chewy stone. Going to air this for awhile before 2nd pour.

Lotta good, inexpensive Saint Emmie’s around. Great value hunting territory.

Ah, the Barefoot Cabernet Sauvignon. Iconic. So iconic, in fact, that Delectable struggled to identify it. Surely not an everyday wine, but reserved for the most special occasions.
Upon opening I am smitten. The vintage is not listed on the label, sadly, but I can tell this has been impeccably cellared.
I am met with fruity and floral notes on the nose. It seems young!
Flavors of dark berries, vanilla, and spice. There is an oak influence here- is it French? Is it American?
The tannins are all but resolved, and the finish is smooth and fine. I'd put this up against anything from Napa, and it would be up there against it. Sitting right there on the counter up against it.
It's hard to find the right words, but suffice to say this wine is unforgettable. It's breathtaking. It's as good, if not better than, the Barefoot Oreo flavored wine.
Drink up! I estimate the 2026 is at its peak.

@Dave, I have 2-3 CASES of this, from, I think, 2006 and 2008 — you think they’re still OK?? Thanks for any insights!

10 years of age has been good to this wine. It's got some enjoyable complexity to it. Black cherries, leather, herbs, green olives? Tannins winding down, high acidity. Wine Enthusiast says 93 points, I couldn't quite get there.

Kahana Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, Paso Robles.
Cork was blown to heck, but this is a pleasing wine. Soft and light in the mouth, but big on typical Cab flavors. A bit of oaky vanilla, but the fruit stays front and center.

@Dave, “cork was blown to heck” — what does that mean?? I often use an Ah-So on older wines, my recent rewards have been to get 90% of the cork out, and then have to use a lovely washable steel mesh filter to pour the rest of the broken cork out. So, trying to decide whether actual “explosives” might have been used on this bottle when the cork didn’t cooperate?? 🤔🤷🙄
Dave

Dave

No explosives this time! I didn't expect a 5 year old cork to crumble under the stress of a regular corkscrew 🤷‍♂️ @Doug Powers

Had this last night on a date with my wife at a hip place. It's a different expression of Pinot Noir, and granted I haven't had many PN's from Italy. Very tart, with cranberry juice at the forefront. A little oakiness, but not overwhelming. Had it with various tapas. Made for an enjoyable evening.

After yesterday's tomfoolery I'm enjoying some real wine made on a real farm. This isn't light, but it's bright with strawberries and cherries. A little leather, a tiny bit of mint.

I have no problem with cheap Chianti. This has a bunch of leather on the nose that settles down over time. Mouth puckering cherries and plenty of acidity. Not one to sip on its own, but compliments pasta and sausage.

This didn't really work for me. The oak influence gave it a very bitter wooden taste. Maybe it's for people that like that.
