Clos Rougeard
Le Bourg Saumur-Champigny Cabernet Franc
Saumur-Champigny, Anjou-Saumur, Loire Valley, FranceOne of the few wines I recognize on the menu and that is on me. Little to be said about Clos rougeard, outstanding, little or no green grass, has become way too expensive but is always a joy.

Oct 15th, 2021Cab franc from an iconic producer that has evolved enough that the pyrazines have completely been integrated. Had it with prime rib and it’s deep rich red fruit flavors just kept unfolding.

Mar 28th, 2018Lovely varietal expression offering lightness and density at the same time. Underlying structure for ageing but hard to resist now. I can understand the hype.

Apr 10th, 2016Funky in a good way. Rich and concentrated, with partially dried black fruits and spice notes flowing into a still youthful but accessible palate, again with dark fruits dominating. Served blind, I was considering Emidio Pepe's Montepulciano... I missed their usual finesse in this bottle.
