My contribution for a large, annual BYO champagne dinner. While this was a standout, others were: La Closerie LC20, ‘07 Cristal rosé en mag, ‘19 Westborn BdB

This vintage had 20% addition of red wine.

The notes below about bottle variation is exactly what was experienced this evening. A friend also brought the ‘06 Dom Rosé but there was a clear difference between the two. Whereas my bottle was deep, rich and an interplay of florals, juicy red fruits, fleshy peach and strawberry shortbread cookies, his seemed like a slightly less vibrant (not off putting) and more muted version (maybe low trace TCA?). The significant portion of red wine in this vintage has provided great structure at nearly age 20, and not as evolved as the regular 2006 Dom (more vinous than the creamy ‘07 Cristal rosé).

If I had another, I’d open it in the next year or two for this same profile but wouldn’t be worried about holding another 5+.

Lovely plush fruit. Strawberry, slate, floral notes. Great definition. The fruit is still a touch primary but this is great stuff with exceptional potential

Orange in color.

On the nose raspberries, citrus, strawberries, limes, green apples, yeast, spices and minerals.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity and medium sized bubbles.

Dry on the palate with lemons, raspberries, strawberries, spices, earth, minerals, green apples, herbs and white pepper.

Nice finish with bitter herbs.

This 16 year old Rosé Champagne still feels very young and fresh. Not as much yeast /bread notes as I expected at this point.

Well balanced with a nice mouthfeel, and drinks very nicely now.

Needs an hour to open up properly, and better when not too cold.

Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years.

A great sipping wine, and good with food too. Spicy, rich and entertaining.

12.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$400.

The final wine at the Dom Perignon dinner last Friday night except for a little glass of Hennessy Cognac where I forgot to make notes. The same lovely Salmon/Pink as the 2005. This was more immediately loveable than the 2005 with delicious red fruits - warm and fleshy - sunshine in a glass. An absolute crowd pleaser but shorter term than the 2005.

Minimal experience with DP rose. This was all about Pinot. Strawberry, cherry and roses on the nose and palate. Poweful acidity runs thru this from start to finish. What fascinated me the most was I found the mid-palate constrained but some how the fruit explodes like a second stage booster rocket and provided me one of the best finishes I have experienced .

Bright, taut and bristling with energy. Time in the glass brings out the resonance of the Pinot. There is a translucence to the 2006 that is so captivating...

Dom - is it cliche? Hell no! This is as good as Rosé gets!! wonderful soft cherry and berry, spices, chalk - the autolytics are there but in the background so they don’t destroy the fruit or voluptuousness -ness - ness!!
