Domaine Hubert Lignier
Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Pinot Noir
Morey St. Denis, Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France
Not bad but paled vs the 96 Rousseau Chambertin. A little match stick in the nose, disjointed. Beefy and young still but not fun at the moment.

This was quite reserved when 1st opened & needed time to open revealing dark cherry, berry fruits, Vosne spice, earth & rose petal. Classic 96 that still needs more time.

Tribute to Romain. In one word, transcendent. For the most part because of the wine, but I can't deny that the occasion and company was also a major factor. A blind among people I hold dear to and one I consider my mentor.
I admit that there isn't much on my tasting notes. I remember how intoxicating the nose was on the 96' and how fast the bottle went from full to nil. A true succees! Notably, the 96' is in that drinking window where the fruit and terrior shone brightly, while the 95' was still blocky and dense.

Magnum 1996 Hubert Lignier Clos de la Roche burgundy. Group dinner at Pr. Drank this before the 1998 Solaia. We were back and forth on this wine. We decanted about an hour before pouring, and at first, we thought it was tight and/or the wine had not been stored totally perfectly. It opened up as the night wore on, but it wasn't a superstar. It might have been a funky bottle, but it wasn't "bad" or "off"- it just wasn't as good as K had hoped.

Magnum 1996 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Burgundy. Decanted for three hours before serving and it could have been decanted another three hours. Went through a funky phase, but came back around at the end of the dinner. First burgundy of the dinner at Stern charity dinner.

Magnum 1996 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru. Wine #2 for K's bday dinner at Bouchon. More earthy than the Bruno Giacosa, but equally balanced and wonderful. Really, really enjoyed this
