Jacques Lemenicier
Cornas AOC Syrah
Cornas, Northern Rhône, Rhône, France
In a fantastic place. Tons of dark berry on the nose. So dark and almost staining. Intense palate with real depth and body. Bit of earth and minerality. Excellent acid and finish. 13% abv, whole thing is very in balance. Great pairing with some olive and grilled meat-heavy Greek food.

Wow. The woman at the winery warned me that this wine is very ripe and young, and usually would not be suitable for drinking for another 4.5 years. I can see what she means. Huge, ripe blueberry fruit dominates the usual Cornas terroir of lead, granite, thyme and crushed flowers, making for a delicious treat, albeit obviously a baby meant to be brought up properly over the next half decade. Buy and cellar if you can.
