Paloma
Napa Valley Merlot
Napa Valley, California, USA

Insane how delicious this wine still was! Would've never guessed anymore than ten years old if tasted blind

Medium-dark red-purple color, beautiful redfruit aromas and flavors, with medium-toast oak showing as a seasoning the background, pretty sound structure and backbone, solid acidity, long, lingering finish, excellent California mountain Merlot (w/25% Cabernet Sauvignon). The sheer quality and complexity of this bottle is a wonderful tribute to the vision of Barbara and Jim Richards, who I am certain would be very proud, with Paloma now being ably run by their son Sheldon and his family.

Wow, super complex redfruits, rich and structured mountain fruit, layers of flavors, the fruit still quite youthful, very long, lingering finish, best bottle of this 1995 Paloma Merlot I’ve ever had, fantastic!!

Cork broke in half on its way out, so initially some musty cardboard aromas, but it seems to be blowing off and the palate and finish are still quite structured and rich, so I don’t think it’s corked, long finish, needs some aeration.

Red and dark fruit aromas, very tannic mountain fruit structure still, even after 25 years, long finish, just a lovely Merlot, and a great tribute to 2 wonderful people — Barbara and Jim Richards!!

Some oak and just a touch of an herbal aroma, still pretty solid structure, balanced, long finish, should be excellent with the prime rib. Kudos to Jim and Barbara for this lovely old Merlot.
