1997 vintage. Pale golden hue. On the nose, lemon (fresh), slightly yeasty, honey suckle and vanilla leaf. Fresh and surprisingly youthful. On the palate, high and fresh acidity, medium minus body, medium alcohol and medium concentration. Great length. Amazing balance and freshness despite age and vintage. Could last for a decade plus. Very impressive.

I remember enjoying this more at the Salon tasting in April. Obviously a great bottle of wine here but after that 99 last week the weight of the fruit is a little much. Quite an enjoyable bottle but for my palate I prefer the 99.

What a treat to have a taste of 1997 Salon Blanc de Blancs. So complex: Toast, chalky minerality, spice, cacao, cloves. Fresh yet rich, balanced, with palate coating bubbles. What a gorgeous wine. Still young as a baby after 18 years of cellaring! Only just developing honey and tertiary aromas. A palpable development in the glass from tight and stern to full-bodied and ample. Orange blossom, yeasty, again honey. A woodied, complex, extremely rewarding after taste. Like another user said it is not about bubbles but about intense aroma and profound flavour.
