maligned due to the high incidence of premox, I forget how staggeringly great a vintage this was when a bottle has a sound cork. Bought on release for $69.99, this bottle was opened last night and it was magical.
A quarter century old, it could go another decade at this level. The intensity, clarity, depth, finesse—all stunning. It was one of those rare bottles where everything clicked, all in tune, perfectly harmonized.
I realize I’ve written two paragraphs and have said nothing yet about the wine. Bouquet and palate offered a panoply of citrus, fennel, menthol, and mineral flavors, all balanced perfectly on its acid, just resonating.
One of the best whites I’ve had in years. Stunning. Such a shame I’ve poured so many 96s down the drain.
