Day 24 of the 2025 Whisky Advent Calendar. This is the 13 yr old Kilchoman Islay single malt. Very, very peaty but with an intense spiciness and no ash. And a smooth vanilla at the end, plus the alcohol hit. I have a mixed relationship with peat, but when it’s done right … I think this is really really good. — 4 days ago
Not particularly aromatic up front. Almost surprising because there is a bit of a peat hot up front. But didn’t get complexity or subtlety, and I thought the finish was ashy. — 10 days ago
Unobtrusive. Nice, not particularly distinctive, a bit too sweet on the finish. Pretty basic overall. This is the Madeira finish version, not the regular. — 10 days ago
Liked this. There was instant Laphroig peat right up front, but surprising as there was not so much on the nose. I don’t love heavy peat, but I thought this was nicely balanced with a rich caramel and spice. — 10 days ago
