Interesting Portuguese wine, grown right by Colares but not in the DOC. Powerful wine, with dark red and black fruits, tobacco, tar, and great spice. High ABV, notable international the nose but less so on the palate. Available in NYC for a good bit less than $20 per bottle: not bad! — 7 years ago

Mencia - Nose of tobacco, herbs, spice and cherries. Light/medium bodied, good acidity. A bit austere on the fruit, but great balance of a very old school wine. — 10 years ago

We waited 52 years to open this battle. We had a special event and this bottle was open. It was kept under ideal conditions and the proper temperature for all these long years and it was worth it. It turned a good wine (Golden Medal winner 1974) into a magnificent one. Glad we were patient. The results are incredible. — 2 months ago
