Opus 14 Merlot Cabernet

Opus 14 is a fantastic wine. It's a joy to drink. Although fruity for a natural wine it still has character and fullness. It is more a easy drink then it's sibling the Caurol 12 (my first natural wine favorite) but by no means boring. There is a reason it is loved by the Copenhagen natural wine community. — 11 years ago

Clau de Nell Chenin Blanc 2017

Presented double-blind at Tasting Group. The wine pours a deep yellow with a transparent core and medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of mixed orchard fruits, white flowers, undigested hay, honey and minerals. A touch wooly. On the palate, the wine is dry with high acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is medium+ and the texture is waxy. Initial conclusions: this could be Chenin Blanc, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc or potentially Viura and even Chardonnay from France, Spain or the USA. However, this is made in a more oxidative style and it’s really hard to take this anywhere but France…maybe Spain if this were Rioja Blanco. But that wooly quality and texture has me in the Loire Valley. Final conclusion: Chenin Blanc from France, Loire Valley, Savennières with 5-10 years of age. Pretty darned close! Scoring points for sure. I gotta say, this almost gave me Joly vibes. Fun stuff. Drink now through 2032. — 6 months ago

Mâcon-Verzé Chardonnay

Roots of Leflaive family go back to 1717 when Claude Leflaive took up residence in Puligny-Montrachet. Straw yellow color with rich stone fruits, floral and biscuit notes. On the palate flavors of apple, peach and ripe pear with citrus, biscuit notes and gentle spice, great mouthfeel. Long finish ending with fruit, vanilla and a mineral tang. Nice! — 3 years ago

Definitely ‘leflaive style’ bravo Anne Claude and the team for biodynamics. Rully at its finest (and maybe it’s most expensive as well) more than rully style, it screams leflaive. Reductive, elegant and yet powerful at the same time. A regal wine and for around $50 almost seems like a bargain. Probably could’ve let this age a few years but I do love the 2017 acid and precision so have at it! ***Don’t forget to sign up for my emails at Alex@nolimitfinewines.com for up to date offers on rare and limited wines at the best price USA... ask anyone, I don’t disappoint!*** — 6 years ago

Enjoyed this bottle in Chicago today as a toast and in memory of Anne-Claude Leflaive. She did so much for wine and was such a bright light... Her energy and life will live on in her wines and at the Domain. RIP Anne-claude. A very sad day and huge loss for the wine world. — 11 years ago
