Showing rust in the glass for sure. Lighter color than expected. Ruby really. Aroma is not bad. Wet leaves from plants in the chaparral hills. And rye bread soaked in red currant liquor. Maybe a hint of a wet unfired clay pot. Flavors have cola and tobacco big time. It’s very dry and ‘Euro’ flavored. Plenty of fruit, but funky and complex. This is a nice Franc that has aged wonderfully. — a month ago

This wine has a very unique palette containing blackberry and notes of cherry. One will find subtle hints of vanilla and a touch of black licorice framed by silky tannins and a generous finish. We paired this with a hearty venison spaghetti and I can see it going well with most Italian dishes. — 10 years ago

Picked this up when all the Avensole Winery wines ended up at grocery outlet. Meh label, but that is superfluous since the winery folded. Lovely color. Violets and roses in the glass. Aroma is funky. Hint of matches. Just a slight barnyard in there too. Butterscotch and berries? Is that a thing lol. Flavors are lovely and on point for fine Syrah. Berries, rocks, wild mushrooms, and pork. Tannins are pucker-y and perfect. Hint of smoke and some black olives. Dense and complex. This is excellent Syrah. Hope the new owners can make a similar quality vino. I’ll go by next time I pass by Temecula. — 4 months ago

This is a Reserve Cab Sauv that also says Lytton on it. Bottle has fake wax poured over the cork area, must be fancy. Nice color. Looks a hint rusty on the edge, with a nice maroon core. Smells a hint like OFF repellant, also cherry jelly or syrup. Perfumed. Flavors are pretty explosive and silky. Berry compote of red and black ones. Like black currant, black berry and raspberry syrup without the sugar all mixed together. This is a smooth operator with a nice backbone and lots to offer. Excellent California Cab. — 10 months ago
