450 Rosso Di Valtellina Red Blend

Wonderful Valltelina Nebbiolo. With 10 years aging, moving towards a Barolo. Sour dark cherries, smoke, leather, tar, long finish. The southern Alps in a bottle. — 3 years ago

Ca' Fracia Valgella Valtellina Superiore Nebbiolo 2002

This blew me away. Smells and tastes of camp fire/cigar smoke but complimented expertly by tart cherry and luscious tannin. — 6 years ago

"Il Fondatore" Valtellina Superiore Nebbiolo 2002

Blend of 20% Riservas from Sasella, Grumello, Inferno and Valgela with 20% Sfursat.
Amazingly complex nose full of cherries, lilies, spices, leather, herbs, a whiff of mint. Very youthful and without any evolved aromas. Midweight on the palate with impeccable balance, juicy acidity, a still firm, dusty tannic grip and a finish that goes on and on. Wow! What a wine.

Riserva Grumello Valtellina Superiore Nebbiolo 2000

The sleeper hit of the duck night. Open for business, but with remarkable structural staying power, and played well with the sweet saltiness of the Peking plate — 9 years ago

Grumello Valtellina Superiore Nebbiolo 2004

Dark and brooding, smoky and masculine, yet with lightness and freshness. At 18 years of age this is in its perfect drinking window. A beautiful Nebbiolo that’s not from Barolo or Barbaresco. — 4 years ago

Crazy value - perfectly aged and ready to go alpine nebbiolo. Compared to Barbaresco, add an extra hit of roses, ease back on the tannins and slip in a touch of balsamic, and you've got something that'll kill it with any roast meat or rich pasta dish. — 10 years ago

Always a soft spot in my heart (palate?) for Valtellina, a place I visited in '85.
