Beckman Vineyard Zinfandel 2018

Nice sparkling red ruby color. Smells like leather, baked blackberry cobbler and cherry jelly. Flavors are mountain, wild berries. Black currants and huckleberry perhaps. Elderberry jelly too. Herbal, beer made of roots flavors. I.e. sarsaparilla or sumac. This is classic, classy Calaveras county Zin. Complex and bright with lots of density. Aged well too. — 7 months ago

Riserva Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2007

While it also showed extremely youthful the ‘07 was on another level and IMO had shed more tannin than the ‘06. It was my last sip of the night and it was plush and beautiful and rounding out incredibly. Potential high 90’s wine in 10 years. Thank you @Matthew Beckman — 7 years ago

Gemello

Cabernet Sauvignon 1970

It’s been called “the greatest wine you’ve never heard of” or a true “unicorn” wine but is inarguably an under the radar California legend. In the early 2000’s it ran away with the title at a CA recreation of the 1976 Judgment of Paris. Google the wine and learn a little about Mario Gemello and this vintage in particular. Fun stuff. This was over the hill IMO but gets a 90 for coolness factor alone. From the master of the Durand @Matthew Beckman — 8 years ago

Pur Sang Pouilly-Fumé Sauvignon Blanc 1993

(Catching up from 6/23 - JB’s Pig Roast) what a great treat from @Matthew Beckman. Didn’t immediately recognize this as a Pur Sang based on the old label A bit of funky cabbage on the nose to start, but this was amazingly in tact for a nearly 25 year old Sauv Blanc. Wow. — 8 years ago

Beaulieu Vineyard

Private Reserve Georges de Latour Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1977

Birth year wine for a very good friend acquired from the irrepressible @Matthew Beckman still a lot of depth and density, solid structure and lots of red currant, grilled herbs, menthol and cedar. Pop and pour with confidence. — 9 years ago

I had the '74 vintage in 2014 for my 40th and it was amazing. Couldn't believe it was 40 years old. These wines were made so well back then. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Domaine Méo-Camuzet

Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2008

I’ve owed Delectable some posts for a while now....and we need community now more than ever and Delectable has always been a positive, supportive community...so I’m jumping back in. I’m about 300 wines behind but I’m going to work backward starting with the wines I’ve enjoyed the last few weeks during this period of relative isolation. I’m calling this series “Loving Wine in the Time of Corona” as a nod to my boy Gabriel Garcia Marquez who was also a big time wine guy......this bottle is from our first Zoom tasting with the local wine group @romo @Steve Anderson @Michael Meyer @Matthew Beckman @Vickie Beuerle @Dan Blackwell on 3/14. Pinot theme. The Meo was youthful and pure, so much depth, concentration and lively red fruit. Good times with great people. — 6 years ago

Why is uploading multiple wines important?

@romo some people find it easier to upload multiple images and notes at once. Especially if you taste a bunch of wines together, in one setting

Les Vaumuriens Pommard Pinot Noir 2011

My maiden voyage with Coche-Dury Rouge. This was all kinds of pure and fresh with an admirable brawny, ripe and chewy mouthfeel. Ruby red and black cherries, rich soil and substantial tingly length. Balanced through and through. Will only get better. Thank you @Matthew Beckman — 8 years ago

@Bill Bender i had ‘11 Coche Bourgogne rouge recently and was really impressed. I can only imagine with envy how good this was. And I keep seeing that insiders are disappointed with how ‘11 Burgs are turning out...
Bill Bender

I’m hearing the same on the ‘11s but as you know certain houses and winemakers produce wines that transcend vintage. I think the ‘11 May be one of the first vintages produced by Jean-Francois’s son, who is now the winemaker.

Sonoma Vineyards

Alexander's Crown Estate Bottled Cabernet Sauvignon 1977

Gifted about two months ago by @Matthew Beckman, with a requirement that I report back when opened. Thought about opening over the holidays, but with the "Selected for the 1981 Presidential Inauguration" band , how could I not wait until Jan 20th? Condition was outstanding with a fill just into the neck. Cork was a little soft, but came out intact with barely any wine incursion. Color was medium ruby red and quite clear. Nose was a just bit bretty to start, but some cedar and tobacco came through in time, then more of a green pepper note. Not much fruit left, but a very good showing for a 39 year old Sonoma Cab. Label indicates 100% Cab, 13.2% ABV, and of course Rodney Strong as winemaker. Thanks Matt! 🍷 — 9 years ago
