Dynamite. Cork broke, but not to worry. The wine is so good. Deep, expressive fruit and bitter leaves. Earthy. Improving considerably as it breathes. And the bottle weighs 37 pounds.

Magrez Fombrauge St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Despite the cool red and black fruit and hints of damp earth, there is no escaping the element of new oak. Now I wonder if I should have left this vibrant, tightly coiled wine for a few more years. Dang it. — 11 years ago

A couple of hours later, oak has quieted down, tannins are up, and complexity is heightened. Dang it. This thing won't be close to peaking for five, maybe ten more years. It will, I think, never be completely balanced, but it's gonna be a treat down the line.

Cheap but quaffable. Heavy on the chalk and soil. Lots of sediment. My tongue is purple. — a year ago
