Homeboy’s B day part 2, at Basque restaurant: a delightful pairing by the Somm after we realized how much the Ribera Sacras would set us back. Female vigneron once again wins: young red cherries on palate, but with enough smokiness & creaminess to balance its tart expression. Plenty of funk but gets integrated. A delightful fresh foil to a delicious meal. I have to look up the varietals because they weren’t obvious. — 4 years ago

Tastes like a mini CdP, at a fraction of the price. — 5 years ago

Gemstone tasting graciously arranged by Al Buis. Tasted from Magnum. This was a rather awesome piece of Gemstone history opened tonight. In Magnum, it seems as though this bottle has done very little aging. It is a very powerful wine that has lost the sweeter front characteristics that the current releases had, which were tasted as well tonight. But the maturity of the black fruit shines through. Lots of chocolate on the middle of this wine. I was getting some sort of a dried herb and nutty component towards the Finish. This one is perfectly balanced. Ready to go! — 8 years ago

Nez de sauvignon, buis, floral, fruits jaunes, ananas, sans être très tendu, il y a juste assez d’acidité pour supporter le tout, très bien et fait changement de boire du Bordeaux blanc. 90-91
Sauvignon nose, floral, pineapple, yellow fruit, just enough acidity to support the richness, nice. — 3 years ago
$26 juicy, tasty, bio, like a lot — 4 years ago
Relatively dry; mild — 5 years ago
Funky nose that then develops to a more complex and explosive aspect, green apple, litchi, mint, touch of hazelnut, and then a slight varietal and vegetal aspect of the Sauvignon. Palate is crisp, wide, massive but a medium length on day one, day two the wine is so much better, more balanced and in place it seems.
— 6 years ago

Tropical with good acid — 7 years ago
Fun little natty here of Cab Franc with a volcanic background. Light ruby hues, and wafting scents of cranberry and violets. Light effervescent bubbles along with medium acid and a light body structure that opens into tart red fruits- raspberries and pomegranate. — 3 years ago
The color is deeper, green apples, some herbal scents (buis). The palate is crisp, feels young, has nice richness to balance the tension, the finish is ling but with a touch of sourness though, great and feels so young. — 5 years ago

@Delectable Wine this is more specifically the alluvial selection cabernet from 2015 . I did not see it in the database . This was a selection at the Gemstone tasting arranged graciously by Al Buis. My rating of this wine at the present time is a 93. I certainly think it is capable of more. TRB wine sourced from the upper blocks of the Gemstone Vineyard. I would say this wine is more medium to full-bodied. Red and black fruits are certainly present. There is a little bit of plum, hint of chocolate, lead pencil, flinty. Finishes with a red clay sort of note. Almost a touch metallic. Loads of tannin here. Not really sweet, just stiff. I look for that to take a decade to blow off. I took about 300 ml from a partially consumed bottle. Plan on trying this again in a couple of days, when I feel this one may be drinking very differently. Very nice wine. 20 years left at least. — 8 years ago
