California Chardonnay

Strong diacetyl notes and rich, smooth oak flavor. Full bodied. Creamy with vanilla highlights. Goes well with a heavier cream pasta dish, soft cheese, poultry, pork, or simply on its own! — 6 years ago

Matua

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2017

The simple rating: more than does the job. Definitely love the crisp and dry taste that borders on being a "fake" sparkling after taste. I did pair this with a Sweetgreen Harvest Bowl that had kale, goat cheese, sweet potato, chicken, almonds...and more. The wine itself is keto friendly even though I am not, ha. — 8 years ago

Board Track Racer The Shift Grenache Syrah 2013

One of my favorite Syrah’s, especially considering how reasonably it’s priced. Beautiful dark magenta color and texture, medium staining with some small sediment. Nose sees tight, dried blue and black berries, funky cured meat, maybe some wet rocks. Palette sees more jammy blue and red berries, medium tannins, medium acid, medium+ alcohol. Nice WA Syrah (with 5% Grenache) made in an old world style. — 8 years ago

Napa Valley Chardonnay 2012

Although this one did tend to have a citrus rich body, it is definitely a malo mouthfeel and more of a buttery chard. This wine was still quite delicious, and it's not really even my style. I was getting some lemongrass on the front, with a peach and mango note in the middle. The finish is more on the buttery side for my taste, but still went lovely with cheese and meat. Probably would have gone very well with Italian spiced nuts or with an herbal chicken dish. I believe this wine probably would have been more comprehensive if served with food. I think this one definitely has the longevity to age, but I'd put more stock in the Judge chard to do that most effectively. — 9 years ago

Fidélitas

Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Strong fruity nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, light cedar, earth, herbs, chocolates, black pepper, eucalyptus and black tea.

Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruit forward on the palate with black plums, cherries, black currants, peppercorn, cola, light wood, spices, coffee, dark chocolates, earth and tobacco leaf.

Nice length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 9 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain in Washington State is drinking beautifully now.

Elegant and nicely balanced, with nice complexity and mouthfeel. Rich and extracted, fruit forward and smooth.

Drinking at its peak now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years. I had this vintage 5 years ago, and it is drinking much better now.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 30 minutes of airtime.

Bold, delicious and good by itself as a sipping wine. Will also pair nicely with a nice piece of steak. I paired it with a charcuterie board and it paired beautifully with the Italian prosciutto.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in (93% new) French Oak barrels for 22 months.

15% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$55 (at release).

Brut Rosé Champagne Chardonnay Blend

The White Burgundy was excellent but, still have to have my BSR 375ml. It’s been awhile for us.

It is a little better tonight following the Burgundy & soft white cheese.

The nose on this bottle really flows out of the glass tonight. Beautiful lean fruits of; blackberries, black cherries, cherries, strawberries, watermelon near the rind, blood orange, orange & tangerine & some pomegranate. Crisp volcanic minerals, saline, sea fossils, baguette crust, vanillin, whiff of caramel, soft white spice, pink flowers and rose pedals.

Everything on the palate sings just a little louder tonight as well. Fruits are even a little richer than normal. Ripe & slightly gummy not as normal leaner fruits of; blackberries, black cherries, cherries, strawberries, watermelon near the rind, blood orange, orange & tangerine & some pomegranate. Crisp and grippy, volcanic minerals, beautiful softer, powdery chalkiness w/o quite the sharper edge it normally has, soft, hints of Provence herbs, saline, sea fossils, baguette crust, vanillin, whiff of caramel, soft white spice, pink flowers and rose pedals. The acidity is crisp, lively and dead on as alway. The long, rich, well balanced finish is deliciously refreshing and persists minutes.

Domaine François Raveneau

Montée de Tonnerre Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2011

2011 vintage. At Au Fils du Zinc in Chablis. Fabian recommended this bottle over the more famed Les Clos 2011 as he thought it would be drinking better. And boy he was right. A very big wine, I would recommend serving it ever so slightly colder than normal to restrain the power in this wine. Medium golden hue. The wine has crushed rock chalkiness, honey blossom and plenty of ripe peach notes. On the palate, this wine explodes with power and ripeness, medium plus body and a very broad mid palate that coats your tongue. The acidity makes your lips smack and powers the very long citrus finish. Hugely impressive compared with my expectations. Really enjoyable particularly with the cheese I had for dessert. Drink now - doubt it can get much better from here. — 9 years ago

Bodega Garzon

Reserva Maldonado Tannat 2017

Fantastic. Deep dark red with a bluish tinge. First taste after opening is a tidal wave of blackberry with lingering tannins. Not overly sweet or juicy tho.
After airing blackberry partially gives way to black current and tannins seem to intensify. Almost too bold to drink alone but not. A triple creme cheese with this would be perfection.
