Alsace Grand Cru Hengst Riesling 2018

Riesling from the Hengst grand cru in Wintzenheim, about 5 miles west of Colmar. Biodynamically farmed vineyards. Lean, precise, elegant with citrus, flowers and hints of rubber on the nose. On the palate there is some grapefruit. Powerful, dry, mineral. Nice saline aftertaste. — 4 years ago

Dove soap on the nose. Extremely delicate, low acid, minimal structure. Yet, quite pleasant and unexpected. Worth a sip — a year ago

Cambon Nouveau Gamay 2021

Cuvée Primeur, but not "Nouveau" from Gamay in Beaujolais by the Lapierre family. We recognize the style on the purity that has made the reputation of these remarkable winemakers. A charming and subtle fresh and pure juice, between strawberry, pomegranate, red fruits, floral notes. Even better the next day.

Vin d'Alsace Rose 2017

One of my favorite Rosés that I've had. Rather dry and really crisp. Has some nice rounded out almost musky light fruit notes. — 8 years ago

Wintzenheim S45-164 2017

Impressive Pinot Noir from a plot in the Hengst Grand Cru in Wintzenheim (Alsace appellation rules don’t permit Pinot Noir here, so it can’t be labeled as Grand Cru). Delicate, Burgundian nose, red fruit, some spices. Light, balanced, elegant, good acidity. Delicious. Positively impressed by all the wines I’ve had from this domaine. — 3 years ago

N° 6 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2016

Deep dark ruby red, gets a bit inky purple toward the center. Red fruit, cedar, and some dusty terroir on the nose. Taste profile is very similar, though detecting a bit of green pepper that I don’t love. Pretty well balanced, but acidity is a bit loud. Plenty of tannin, too. Would like to try again in 2-3 years to see if it integrates more. Really quite good but showing potential to be better. — 5 years ago
