Made only six times in the past 33 years and not at all since 2004 (at least not yet released), this is a stunning rarity and the jewel of the iconic Dal Forno portfolio. Medium dry with plenty of acidity and crunchy fruit to maintain exceptional balance. While the Amarone grapes are dried about 19 days, the grapes for this recioto are dried for 40 days. Light on the nose (prunes, minerality) with a big mouthfeel from strong tannins and rich cherry notes. Definitely needs an hour or so open before you drink it but is delightful with food that matches its strength. // Naso leggero (prugne, mineralità) con una grande sensazione in bocca. Smoky pear, yellow apples, fresh cut hay on a verdant farm the day after a rain. Lemon croissant with a brush of glazed sugar, lemon zest, chive, and satin petals of azalea outline the perfume. There is a freshness of clean, laundered, sun-dried whites. Medium mouthfeel with distinct white pepper, extra virgin oil, tart apple, lemon essences, peach skin, culminating in a silky dryness, full of tangerine and kumquat piths. This wine has a pale, straw yellow color in the glass with hints of green. The nose sports a boatload of citrus - lemon, lime, tangerine - with a slight herbal scent. Pinot Grigio usually is too floral and flaccid for my taste. Not this one. The palate has every bit of that citrus from the nose and minerality to spare. Acidity is bracing, so food pairings will be easy. But this is a great sipper, too, as an aperitif. — 2 years ago
