The Lantern Imperial Pumpkin Ale

Great pumpkin amber coloring with a decidedly orange hued pate. Lacy trim drops hearts and tiny pumpkins. Plenty of pumpkin on the nose accented by caramel apple and acorn squash. Cinnamon sticks allspice, mace and cloves dominate the palate, with cedar and oak forming the fiddle in the middle. Apple cider tangy on the finish. Just an intense and interesting Florida offering from Wesley Chapel. Fall gold,

Hazy & Juicy New England IPA

Tang-sequel coloration with perfect equilibrium and crown persistence. Wig white, even dissipation reminiscent of fine cigar burn. Striating lacing of cartoon chompers and snowy tangle of wildwood. Pleasant malty and citrus interplay punctuated by oranges and pink grapefruit wild strawberry tart with caramel and sweet tobacco and Turkish coffee from a distance. Paisley lacing ensues. Lemon oils and candied grapefruit peel frame a tangerine occurrence and sparkly mineral stardusting, and a textural approximation of peaches that adds pliancy. After the initial fruit, and subsequent sips your mouth builds up the bitter units to tangible topography that lingers. Overall, a well crafted and thoughtfully restrained offering from an iconic producer. You can sense that they wanted to get this one right. Lacing remnants: gothic text with horror overtones on one side, middle command graphics, and a t-Rex-alligator-puma logo for your new pumped up kicks. .

Glorious Galaxy Pale Ale

Pours opaque and agitated with an instantaneous, snowy flattop. It subsequently flattens to a skim of tiny, loose white bubbles, most hugging the rim. Very bold and tropical nose of pineapple, Meyer lemon and clementine with a bit of lemon bread and glazed carrot thrown in for good measure. Chamomile tea and hemp flour in the middle, as lemongrass ultimately sharpens its otherwise soft edges aromatically. Quartz and metallic mineral textures transform citrus to crystal lemon and grapefruit with a nitric element. Grape leaf, lime and candied basil with green pansy flavors and bitter lime marmalade. #glorious #lordhobo #galaxypaleale #beer #ale #hops #lordhobobrewing #paleale #massachusetts #brew — 8 years ago

Weiss Theodora, Timotheus, Emmeram and Mechthild Grüner Veltliner Blend 2016

Surprised to find this lying around The Wine House. Bought three bottles so we’ll see how it feels in a few years. This wild blend was cloudy gold with a considerable amount of effervescence and life. The skin contact shows up a bit in the middle palate and tons of yeast coming at the end. Blind I might have gone with a Belgian Lambic beer to be honest. Lots of love for this one and everything the Tscheppes are doing. — 8 years ago

Top Cutter India Pale Ale

Typical northwest IPA but very well done. Obviously they have the best selection of hops available given that the brewery is literally in the middle of their own hop fields. The beer has good citrusy and somewhat grassy hop nose and sweet malt. On he palate, it is well balanced with hop bitterness and slightly sweet and lightly biscuity malt. Very local, so this is an easy go-to beer for me. — 10 years ago

Mission Brewery

Shipwrecked Double IPA

This beer makes me want to take an UberX in the middle of a weekday to the nearest liquor store in San Francisco and toss one of these back standing in the aisle gnoshing on a triple size Tabasco Slim Jim while the store owner screams at me to pay for it. I love the combination of a fully hopped IPA with a darker ale backbone. Truly a double but not overwhelming. Yet again, another killer IPA from San Diego. Quite possibly my absolute al time favorite. — 11 years ago

Goose Island

India Pale Ale

I was slightly disappointed by this much talked about and praised IPA in the beer community, I like it, and think it had some nice things going for it, but I was not blown away like many are by this beer, nice middle of the country hops and well balanced malt , citrus, very pleasant and subtle, not in your face or palate IPA, 5.9 % ALC/VOL do not taste any of that, very good starter IPA for first timers, defiantly different then the West Coast IPA's I will keep this on hand and give more time to grow on me, only want to give more time because so many are big fans, will re review if something changes, — 12 years ago

Founder's

KBS Chocolate Coffee Stout

Non vintage, but bottled on 2/26/20. Typical KBS on the pour and in the glass. Dark black and viscous. Dark chocolate, bourbon and roasted malt on the nose. Rich and flavorful in the mouth. Great texture. Dark chocolate leads, bourbon in the middle and a slightly bitter finish. 12% ABV is well hidden. KBS was once a unicorn beer (I still have several bottles of every vintage going back to 2013), but this is not that. While still a great beer, the mass production the last few years is starting to take a toll. Maybe a year in the cellar with it's older brothers will give it some balance. — 6 years ago

Cedar Crest Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2017

Ripe and delicious, yet herbal and nuanced. Nicely extracted fruit but balanced with ripping acidity and a bunch of grip. This is slightly more down-the-middle California compared to his Mission, which is (totally delicious) kombucha/sour beer/funky and wild. — 7 years ago

Cloudy and grey to red-brown Amber through the pour. Leesy-teasy. This voluminous lady sprung a shock white, unexpectedly pure pate. Cinnamon baked apple and caramel are soft suggestions initially. Barley and malt cameo as themselves with a whole jar of raw honey and ginger snap crumbles. These aromas are deceptive. She’s not that sweet, really. She snaps between a mineral texture and a pretzel bun with a Hawaiian bread middle. There is lingering almond butter after a briny lemon and a citrus tea that drags it all back. There is a decidedly German depth to the beer, which embraces a baked bread quality, but this is lean and sleek, sidestepping the heartburn of some styles. Hazelnut oil, almond flower, pecan, and sunflower seed persist in a lees-y postlude. #brauereimaxliebinger #unfiltered #zeppelin #germanbeerday #deutschland #Deutschebier #bier #beer #lees #strangebrew #gettheLedout #Hindenbeerg — 8 years ago

I often imagine medieval punishments for hipsters who put coffee and mangos in beer. Luckily this delicious beer respects the purity law of 1516. Right down the middle and good like that! — 10 years ago

Domaine Huet

Le Haut-Lieu Vouvray Chenin Blanc 2013

Summer baked beans and rice milk seep from toasted oak, like dense rich caramel syrup. Buttery white and sun dried black tea leaves fall at the back and stretch to the middle of your tongue leaving hints of dragon fruit, wet rooibos herbs, and roasted coffee . A touch of bitter dry plum seed wrinkles the tongue shortly only to give way to refined banana and sugar cane laced rainwater.
Cereal milk and warm beer wort soak dried oats and caramelized pecan droplets. The sweet sweat of miso infused pork belly glycerin skips from the back of your throat to the white of your teeth - vaporizing into peach and whip cream Belgian waffles with a touch of bourbon vanilla and fresh strawberry slices that have been soaked in watermelon juice.

Timber Ales

Fields of Fall

Timber Ales ‘Fields of Fall’ imperial Stout

Nearly headless, dark cocoa pate with rapid bubble breakdown. Candlewax serpents dripping lacings over oily trails leave one-eyed bunny trace. Solid black across and through. Glass stainer. Nose of roasted pumpkin, roasted coffee, black strap molasses, dark cocoa nibs, roasted chestnut. Heavy mouthfeel mimics the molasses smell, and gives toffee and Turkish coffee impressions. Initial taste bitters quickly, but subsequent tastes are coated in treacle. Pumpkin and spice give this a perceptively plump middle. The finish is forever. Mwahahaha!

Silver Eagle Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

Thanksgiving wine number 7. The last of the celebration before we switched to beer! I will tell you that most of the reason why we opened this one was because it was on the counter and we were talking about Napa Valley experiences. Next thing you know, the cork on this one is out! Pours a slightly violet color to the glass. Sweet briar patch brambleberry and mint nose. The entry of this wine is medium to full-bodied. Very acidic at first, displaying almost a blood orange zest. The acidity flattens out in the middle, displaying a very robust sweet fruit characteristic. Steel finishes with a lot of acidity and a lot of tannic grip. In all honesty, this one needed to stay in the chiller to rest for a few more years. Why wait? Drinking rather well, although if I had to do it all over again, I would probably decant for about 2 hours before serving, or better yet just wait 3 to 5 years. — 8 years ago

My QPR challenge would be to drink the mag of the good stuff, fill the bottle with Charles Shaw and recork. $1,000 says none of my South Texas family would know.

Lol. I’d take that bet. I think if you upgraded to Charles Smith, you’d lock in that bet.

Bourbon Barrel really adds a nice toasty dimension to a producer of already pretty awesome barleywine. This beer does not disappoint. Sweeter toasted cognac type notes up front. Lots of dark malty and more full-bodied front, and turning into a sharper middle and finish that is classic barleywine. Integrated perfectly! — 8 years ago

@Shawn R they always seem to have some rather creative artwork. Makes you wonder if the requirement is to be completely trashed on that particular beer before you can start designing the label :-)

Lakefront Brewing Inc.

Fixed Gear American Red Ale

Strong hoppiness up front, mellowing slightly in the middle, but keeps a nice bitterness throughout. As the initial punch of the hops relaxes, you get the rich, full body that the 'red' IPA brings to the table. A really excellent beer, and in my opinion, Lakefront's best. — 10 years ago

Blue Light

When you fall asleep and float to that safe land of dreams, where the person you love is full of infinite youth and health and they love you and you love them, you don't need a beginning middle or end. You begin in the middle and yet have a familiarity with the past, even without experience. A comfortability with the events transpired. This beer is that familiarity. 10/10. — 12 years ago
