The nose is cidery and not super inviting, but the palate is far more appealing. Bright coppery color. Chewy tannins. Tastes of orange peel and windfall apples. Had this at Osteria Santo Stefano in Piacenza, where their entire white wine list appears to be orange wine. — 7 years ago
Vivid moderately saturated ruby. Fresh scents of black cherry, strawberry, mocha and flowers. Then extremely clean and fresh on the palate, with a youthful, musclebound quality but also very precise concentrated red fruit and violet flavors. Finishes long with smooth tannins and outstanding balance. I can’t even begin to remember the last time I have had a Gutturnio so devoid of green streaks and so much fun to drink. Well done. A blend of 55% Barbera and 45% Croatina from vines planted in 1977; spends twelve months in large oak barrels and barriques. The label says 14% alcohol, but it tasted like it had fewer octanes than that to me. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, Jan 2018)

Frizzante! Lightly effervescent, on the sweet side. Crazy juicy and crushable, like martinelli's. Black cherry, red currant jam, toasted almond. — 7 years ago

Great wine! Lots of funky strawberry and fresh berry flavors. Perfect with or without food, needs a slight chill. This is a sparking style wine but only has a slight effervescence. Small winery in Italy. — 8 years ago

Unusual combination: floral, especially on the nose, silky minerality, blackberry, then tar, leather, nice bite on the finish. Great with a rich Cal-Italian meal — 10 years ago
